Giants vs. Marlins, MLB Scores: Marlins End Giants Win Streak 5-1, Ricky Nolasco Dominates

The San Francisco Giants came into tonight’s game on a nine game home winning streak, but thanks to the Florida Marlins, they’re going to have start a new one. Ricky Nolasco pitched a gem, Mike Stanton took Matt Cain yard, and the Marlins took game one of the series by a score of 4-0.

Matt Cain (L 3-3) got a bit flustered on the mound as home umpire Chad Fairchild and his moving strike zone kept him from getting into a groove. Consequently Cain lasted for only six innings allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

As for the aforementioned Nolasco (W 4-0), he continued his dominance of the Giants with a scoreless eight and 1/3 innings pitched allowing seven hits, two walks, and five punch outs. He came out after loading the bases in the ninth, but closer Leo Nunez kept the Giants to a Miguel Tejada sacrifice fly and nothing more for his 18th save of the year. Nolasco is now 3-0 lifetime at AT&T Park with an ERA under 1.00, but what leads to his dominance? I think it’s his haricut.

The Giants were 0-8 with runners in scoring position, but Andres Torres and Cody Ross still managed 2-3 nights with a pair of doubles, while Buster Posey was 2-4.

Full box score can be found here.

The Giants continue their series with the Marlins tomorrow with Madison Bumgarner (1-6 3.71 ERA) on the bump to face Chris Volstad (2-3 5.73 ERA) for the Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
