The Niners are out to prove that this year's team is even better than the last and that's a scary thought for the rest of the league.
The San Francisco 49ers have proven with their first two wins of the season that last season being a fluke is no longer a legitimate topic of conversation. Yes, two wins isn't a lot but the manner in which they've been done and the respect they've garnered from players, coaches and pundits alike is enough for them to be the consensus No. 1 team in three of the nation's Power Rankings.
Sportsline moved the Niners from No. 4 to No. 1 and added their name to the list of people who call this an old-fashioned team thriving in a new-school league.
ESPN moved the Niners from No. 2 to No. 1 and reminded everyone that under Jim Harbaugh, this team is 15-3 in the regular season.
SB Nation moved the Niners from No. 3 to No. 1 and was able to admit that they may have had it wrong when they thought the Niners would fall back to earth this season.
