Smith sustained a right hip bruise in the 49ers' exhibition opener Aug. 10. He spent much of last week watching from the sidelines in crutches and there is a strong chance he will be available to play in Sunday's exhibition game against the Denver Broncos.
Walker has been out of practice for the past week after sustaining a right knee injury during the team's open practice at Candlestick Park Aug. 12.
Running back LaMichael James attended Monday's practice but was not in pads after suffering a left ankle sprain on Saturday night against the Houston Texans. Fellow running back Brandon Jacobs was standing in crutches on Monday after also sustaining a knee injury against the Texans. Coach Jim Harbaugh is hoping Jacobs will be ready by the season opener Sept. 9.
Smith had a stellar rookie season last year and set a 49ers record for most sacks by a rookie, with 14.0.
