LaMichael James, who injured his left ankle late in the 49ers' preseason game on Saturday, says he will return to practice Monday.
Comcast Sports Network's Matt Maiocco reported that despite the apparent severity of the twisted ankle, James says he will be ready to participate in team drills when team practices resume.
The rookie running back injured his ankle during the fourth quarter of San Francisco's preseason game with the Houston Texans. James was filling in for Brandon Jacobs, who had suffered an injury during the game in the first quarter.
James, who was the 49ers' second-round pick out of Oregon in the 2012 draft, was taken down awkwardly in a pileup and had to leave the game that the 49ers eventually lost, 20-9.
Before sustaining the ankle injury, James had rushed for 19 yards on four carries for the 49ers.
