It's been a pretty good time for San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. He enjoyed a resurgence in popularity with the 49ers going 13-3 and making the playoffs for the first time in a long time. He won a big playoff game thanks to some big time catches. He's become the signature offensive weapon on a team that is expected to contend for a Super Bowl this season.

What makes Vernon Davis so great? Well, he embodies the spirit of the Marine Corps with his offensive-minded abilities. The Marine Corps decided to highlight this in their series regarding the Core of Sports.
