NFL Mock Draft 2012: 49ers Select Troy OG James Brown In 1st Round

Stay connected for news and updates

The 2012 NFL Draft is less than a week away and the speculation continues to swirl about who the San Francisco 49ers will pick in the first round.

The latest mock draft over at Draft Tek suggests that the 49ers will use their No. 30 overall selection to pick Troy Trojans offensive guard James Brown.

The ex-LOT projects very well inside at the NFL level. He's got great "OG" footwork and an impressive initial punch and recoil. He fights through the whistle with impressive upper-body strength and physical hands. The Niners have invested several high round picks into the interior offensive line in recent drafts. Some good (Iupati) others not so (Rachal). But small-schooler Brown may need time to develop.

This is certainly an interesting take, particularly since most mock drafts in the past couple of weeks have suggested that the Niners would be selecting Stanford Cardinal tight end Coby Fleener.
