Ray McDonald Arrest Might Have Been Due To Police/DA Mixup

Ray McDonald was arrested early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop led to police discovering an outstanding arrest warrant for the 49ers defensive end. It appears as though the whole situation might have been due to a clerical error with either the DA's office or the police department.

McDonald was arrested and released a few hours later on a warrant related to his 2010 DUI arrest. The warrant was issued last August when records indicated McDonald had not provided proof he attended a mandatory first offender class. The $7,500 warrant was issued and police eventually caught up with McDonald on the traffic stop.

McDonald recently chatted with Matt Maiocco about the incident and it turns out, according to McDonald, he had completed the class and submitted the paperwork on time. The issue was cleared up after his arrest and he was released accordingly.

Given Aldon Smith's arrest two weeks ago for a DUI, a further arrest had 49ers fans a bit nervous about where the offseason was headed. This would seem to clear one issue off the plate. Given the error involved, McDonald would seem in a position to avoid being disciplined by the team or the league.

Ray McDonald Arrest: DUI First Offender Class Reportedly At Center Of Warrant

49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested at 2:00am Wednesday morning after police discovered an outstanding arrest warrant during a route traffic stop. McDonald was arrested and subsequently released at 7:00am.

According to reports, McDonald had a $7,500 arrest warrant issued in his name on August 9, 2011. The warrant was related to his 2010 arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. In handling that case, McDonald was reportedly required to attend a first offender's class that anyone convicted of a DUI must take. The warrant was issued when he reportedly failed to submit proof that he attended the class. This indicates he either failed to submit the necessary paperwork for the class, or he simply did not attend the class.

At some point this will all be cleared up, with 49ers fans hoping it was simply a paperwork snafu, as opposed to blatantly disregarding the mandated DUI course. It appears to be something that can and should be resolved in the coming weeks.

49ers Ray McDonald Arrested On Outstanding Warrant, Released

Ray McDonald, the San Francisco 49ers fifth-year defensive lineman, was arrested early Wednesday morning according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News in Sunnyvale, CA for an outstanding warrant originating from his 2010 arrest for suspicion of DUI in San Mateo County.

Sunnyvale police pulled over McDonald for what seems to be a traffic violation, and was arrested around 2 a.m. when officers learned of his outstanding arrest warrant, according to Sunnyvale Capt. Dave Verbrugge.

"No other charges filed," Verbrugge said. "He was cooperative and no problems."

McDonald was arrested by the California Highway Patrol back on June 12, 2010 for suspicion of driving under the influence in San Mateo County.

McDonald was reportedly released from the Santa Clara County Main Jail around 7 a.m., Wednesday morning according to Sgt. Jose Cordoza of the Santa Clara Sheriff's Department. A call to the 49ers for comment was not immediately returned, though McDonald was seen entering the team's facility Tuesday afternoon for an assumed workout session.

Big Ray started all but one game this past season, including a career-high 2 ½ sacks in the NFC Championship Game game against the New York Giants. The49ers third-round pick out of Florida in 2007, he signed a five-year, $20 million contract this past July.

McDonald is the second 49ers player arrested in the past two weeks, as OLB Aldon Smith was arrested on charges of driving under the influence back on Jan. 28 in Miami.
