Aldon Smith Arrested: 49ers' Smith Seen Swerving Before DUI Arrest

According to the Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith was seen swerving on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach before being pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence Saturday.

Smith was pulled over at 4:33 a.m. early Saturday morning, spending three and a half hours in a Miami-Dade County correctional facility after being arrested. He posted his $1,000 bond and would be be released.

Detective Juan Sanchez of the Miami Police Department noted that other cars on the road had to make evasive maneuvers from Smith’s the red Mercedes Benz. Smith failed a field sobriety test, and was promptly taken a Miami police station for a beathalyzer test. Detective Sanchez said the results of that test weren’t available yet.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2011 draft, Smith led all rookies with 14 regular season sacks and is considered a leading candidate for rookie of the year honors.

Aldon Smith Arrested: Smith Not Only 49er With DUI Problems

With the recent arrest for DUI in Florida for San Francisco 49ers’ Aldon Smith, he joins a few other teammates (and possibly coaches) in the ranks of committing this bonehead crime.

Current 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in San Mateo Country by California Highway Patrol back in June on 2010. He would be released an hour and a half later. McDonald would end up pleading not guilty.

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has also had his unfortunate run in with the law, being arrested for DUI in San Diego when he was the coach of the University of San Diego. He would end up spending almost 8 hours in the Vista holding facility (aka drunk tank). Eventually he would plead guilty and accept the consequences of his actions.

Hopefully Aldon will take care of this properly and get back to focusing on football again.

Aldon Smith Arrested: San Francisco 49ers Release Official Statement

San Francisco 49ers defensive end and potential Rookie of the Year Aldon Smith was arrested in Miami on Saturday morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated. On Saturday afternoon, the 49ers released their official statement regarding the incident.

The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Aldon Smith. We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing legal matter. The 49ers will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely.

Smith will likely need to undergo counseling as part of the NFL mandates regarding offenses of this kind. He will also likely be fined and faces the possibility of a suspension, although that last action is unlikely. Hopefully the rookie will learn a very big lesson now and not less this type of thing happen again.

Aldon Smith Arrested: 49ers Linebacker Likely To Be Fined, Probably Will Not Be Suspended

Aldon Smith got himself into a considerable amount of trouble on Friday evening as he had a few too many drinks while partying in Miami. While he will spend some time in jail before having a hearing in front of a judge, Smith will likely only be fined for his actions by the National Football League and Roger Goodell. He is lucky that this is only his first DUI arrest.

Here is the NFL's personal conduct policy:

Any Covered Person arrested for or charged with conduct prohibited by this policy will be required to undergo a consultation and additional counseling as directed. Failure to comply with the consultation and counseling (including being arrested for or charged with additional criminal activity during the evaluation and counseling period) shall itself be conduct detrimental to the National Football League and shall be punishable by fine or suspension at the discretion of the Commissioner.

We can only hope Aldon learned from his mistakes and will never jeopardize his life and the lives of others as he did early Saturday morning. We will likely see an official statement from Smith and the San Francisco 49ers in the coming days.

49ers Defensive End Aldon Smith Arrested In Miami For DUI

Aldon Smith has been given a lot in life. Blessed with incredible size and athleticism, he is financially set for life because of his ability to play football. He has oodles of supporters in San Francisco, Missouri and all around the nation, but for one stupid reason or another, he went driving on Friday night while intoxicated.

The Rookie Of The Year candidate was booked and charged early Saturday morning and is being held in a Miami prison. The 49ers are yet to make a statement on behalf of Smith.

It appears bail has been set for $1,000 dollars, but it may take a while with it being the weekend. Expect both Smith and the team to release a statement following the arrest. Fortunately for Smith he is a first-time offender and will likely face nothing more than a fine and probation.

Hopefully they have comfortable beds at whichever jail Aldon spends the weekend at.
