Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is questionable against the San Francisco 49ers with a broken hand, which means the Niners defense could have to deal with second-year quarterback Mike Kafka on Sunday.

Michael Vick to Play Sunday vs. 49ers

It’s hard to keep a competitor like Michael Vick off the field if he’s able to, and according to sources Vick is more than ready to go this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

According to Bleeding Green Nation and EaglesInsider Vick is undoubtedly ready to go this weekend:

Michael Vick: “I will be out there on Sunday, regardless. There is a 100 percent chance I’m playing.”

The pro-bowl quarterback took part of Wednesday practice, and was doing well enough that he and the team felt he will be ready to go this Sunday against the Niners. Vick injured his right (non-throwing) hand during last week’s meeting with the New York Giants, which the team originally thought to be broken. It was diagnosed as a deep bone bruise the next day by team doctors, and is still rather swollen and sore.

Vick has throw from 605 yards already this season, completing 59% of his passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions thus far. His importance to this Eagles squad is incalculable, and anytime he isn;t on the field is a time that the Eagles are vulnerable. Let’s hope for the Niners sake he isn’t 100% on Sunday.

Eagles Will Know Michael Vick's Status After Wednesday Practice

Rarely do you find a single player who can seemingly make or break a team’s chances of winning a ballgame, but that just might be the case with the Philadelphia Eagles and their quarterback Michael Vick.

The team has been cautious with Vick and his deep bone bruise on his non-throwing right hand, but will know if he is ready to go after practice Wednesday against the San Francisco 49ers this week. Though origianally though to be broken, Vick’s hand wont hinder him that much, and likely will be taking the field this Sunday in Philly.

“We have to get the swelling where it is manageable and he feels comfortable,” Reid said. “It’s about the same right now, and it’s not to say that he can’t play with the swelling, it’s just got to be where he can bend his hand where he can work with it.”

Vick has throw from 605 yards already this season, completing 59% of his passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions thus far. Any time lost could possibly give backup Vince Young some playing time, setting up a Vick-esque move , like that which occurred in 2010 with him and Kevin Kolb.

Michael Vick Injury: Contusion, Not Break Means Vick Might Be Available Versus 49ers

Reports out of Philadelphia Sunday evening indicated quarterback Michael Vick might have broken his right non-throwing hand when he landed awkwardly after a tough hit. News on Monday indicates otherwise as Vick reportedly only has a contusion of the hand, and not any sort of fracture or break. According to head coach Andy Reid, Vick would be available against the 49ers if the swelling goes down over the next couple days.

More than likely Vick will be limited in practice in order to get the swelling down in time for Sunday's game with the 49ers. It will be interesting to see if he wears anything on the hand to protect it in some manner. That would still create some problems for the Eagles as it could affect the center-QB exchange.

A 100% Vick would create serious problems for the 49ers while a less than 100% Vick could put the 49ers in a position to spring an upset. This story will continue developing through the week so we'll have plenty of updates.

Michael Vick Hand Injury Sidelines Him Against San Francisco 49ers

Michael Vick got battered and bruised by the New York Giants on Sunday, and eventually left the game with a broken right hand (non-throwing hand). Early reports from Howard Eskin of NBC 10 in Philadelphia indicate that Vick will be out 3-4 weeks. Even if that prognosis isn't totally correct, this likely means that there'll be no Vick against the San Francisco 49ers.

While you never want to wish injury on a fellow player, it's clear that this could be a fortuitous break (no pun intended) for a team as offensively moribund as the 49ers. No way Alex Smith and the stagnant Niners offense is ready to go toe-to-toe with Vick in an offensive slugfest. With young Mike Kafka now likely to start for Philadelphia at quarterback, the 49ers defense should be in great shape to pressure him around and keep the game within striking distance. However, Philadelphia will be plenty motivated to rebound from their loss to the Giants, so San Francisco's offense is going to have to make plays, Vick or no Vick.
