NFL Free Agents 2011: Carlos Rogers Reportedly On 49ers Radar

The San Francisco 49ers are weighing their free agency options and one position they're looking to solidify is at corner back. The newest target added to the list: Carlos Rogers

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee:

A cornerback market that once was rich in quality cover men only has a few names left. One of them, Redskins free agent Carlos Rogers, is drawing interest from the 49ers, according to a league source. Washington drafted Rogers (6-0, 190) ninth overall out of Auburn in 2005. He took over as a regular starter the following season.

...

The 49ers finished 24th in pass defense last season and then lost their top cornerback, Nate Clements, when he signed with the Bengals. According to national reports, they were in the running for three high-profile cornerbacks on the free-agent market this year, Nnamdi Asomugha, Jonathan Joseph and Antonio Cromartie. Those players, however, ended up signing with the Eagles, Texans and Jets respectively.

Barrows also goes on to list a few other options the 49ers could look at in the coming weeks.

As far as Carlos Rogers goes, he is a talented, reliable cornerback who has experienced success since joining Washington six years ago. The market has shrunk considerably for starting corners with the multiple signings this past week and Rogers will likely be in high demand. San Francisco will likely need to make haste should they decide to seriously peruse Rogers.
