CBSSports.com released their Week 7 NFL Power Rankings and like most other folks, they have the 49ers inching closer and closer together following Sunday’s 17-9 49ers victory over the Raiders.
Oakland Raiders – 27
They lost the battle of the Bay to the 49ers after dominating the first half defensively. They just couldn’t get the offense going.
San Francisco 49ers – 28
They have just one victory, but in their weak division they still have a chance. Maybe team president John York isn’t nuts.

Greg Matzek posted his power rankings and the Raiders and 49ers saw little movement. The 49ers did leap frog the Raiders. The most striking thing is the comments on the Raiders are beginning to look a lot like they were this time last year. Check it out:
SAN FRANCISCO 49ers-28
At 1-5, they are still in the hunt in the NFC West. If they played in any other division, their season would be toast.
OAKLAND RAIDERS-29
Brett Favre is older than Jason Campbell’s completion % on Sunday (41 years, to 38%).

Fanhouse released their Week 7 NFL Power Rankings and the 49ers and Raiders did not see much in the way of change. Given the nature of the result that probably shouldn’t surprise many people. The 49ers got the win and should benefit, but it wasn’t such a strong win that it should have them skyrocketing. At the same time, the Raiders have been up and down all year and given that the 49ers were a perplexing 0-5 team, they shouldn’t plummet with the loss.
Oakland Raiders – 27
Bruce Gradkowski’s hurt. Now Jason Campbell’s hurt. If you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Oakland, just wait until Kyle Boller gets a start in Denver on Sunday, if Campbell’s unable to go.
San Francisco 49ers – 29
Resting squarely on the hot seat, Mike Singletary managed to pull out a must-win game against Bay Area rival Oakland in Week 6. Was the victory a product of improved defensive play or the ineptitude of the Jason Campbell-led Raiders? Probably a little of both. San Francisco will look for another win this week against Carolina.

ESPN recently posted their Week 7 NFL Power Rankings and they make a slight flip flop of the 49ers and Raiders as compared to the SB Nation rankings. They rank the 49ers 27th and the Raiders 28th. I suppose given the matchup and how ugly it was, you could rank the Raiders and 49ers anywhere near each other and it’s not really worth complaining about.
San Francisco 49ers – 27
Baby steps, baby steps. Beat the Raiders one week, visit the winless Panthers the next.
Oakland Raiders – 28
The Raiders failed to capitalize on early chances and gave the 49ers life.

Each week every media source under the sun rolls out NFL power rankings to assess how they feel about the status of every team in the NFL. In Week 7, we shouldn't be surprised to see the 49ers starting to gain some ground, while the Raiders dropped some ground, all thanks to the same game. The 49ers managed to scratch out their first win in a game against the Raiders that had arguably the ugliest first half we may ever see.
The plan each week will be to post some of the various power rankings out there for folks to check out and see how their team is doing. Whether you're a Raiders fan or 49ers fan, there is something for everybody. We'll start this week with the in-house power rankings at SB Nation's NFL site.
SB Nation has the Raiders ranked 28th and the 49ers ranked 29th. Normally I'd argue that the 49ers victory should propel them higher, but given the 49ers season, I don't think I have much of a leg on which to stand. Here's what SB Nation's Joel Thorman had to say about each team
Oakland Raiders - 28
Is it Jason Campbell? Or Bruce Gradkowski? Or a 2011 draft pick? This team is spinning.
San Francisco 49ers - 29
Yeah it's the Raiders but a win is a win. The 49ers are likely out of it but they also play in arguably the worst division.Eight wins could do it.
