The NBA Draft is only a day away, though the mock drafts and rumor mills keep on keeping on up until the last minute. And in his latest 4.0 version of his NBA Mock Draft, Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick has the Sacramento Kings choosing Harrison Barnes with the No. 5 overall selection.
Even though Amick chose Barnes, his commentary suggests that Sacramento is having issues selecting just what player they would want with te No. 5 pick:
Sources said the Kings aren't as content as I'd previously thought about the idea of grabbing whichever player falls between Kidd-Gilchrist and Barnes (assuming Beal is gone and Robinson, with whom they'd likely be thrilled, is off the board as well). As discussed back in Mock 2.0, I'm now hearing once again that they may go big in an attempt to find a complement for young center DeMarcus Cousins. I still put Barnes here because he's the value pick who could be dealt to another team as part of a trade in which the Kings move back to select a big man. Sources said one of the possibilities is to swap picks with Golden State (No. 7) and pick up another asset. And it's well-chronicled that the Kings can move back in exchange for Houston's 14th and 16th picks.
One thing is for sure, and that's that the Kings aren't sold on Andre Drummond, whom they will likely avoid entirely:
As for which big man they'd opt for? That's not clear yet, though I'm told it wouldn't be Connecticut center Andre Drummond.
Should be interesting to see how this all pans out come Thursday.
