NBA Free Agency Rumors: Kings To Pursue Jason Thompson, Nicolas Batum

The Sacramento Kings still have some areas of their roster to address following the completion of the 2012 NBA Draft. While some would point to the small forward position as the key area to improve, the Kings will reportedly make re-signing Jason Thompson their biggest priority. Thompson is an unrestricted free agent and could be a very valuable piece along with DeMarcus Cousins and (now) Thomas Robinson.

Here is the latest from Jason Jones, a beat writer for the Kings.

Jones also reported that Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum will be a name to keep an eye on in the coming days of free agency, but that he's restricted and Sacramento won't overpay to bring him to town.

The Kings always seem to go cheap whenever adding a guy through free agency, and that appears to be the case this time around. While it's never good to overpay for an aging veteran, you would like to see the front office be aggressive when pursuing someone who would fit nicely on the roster.

Then again, this is the same front office that acquired John Salmons last year.

Sacramento Kings Like Thomas Robinson, Houston Rockets Pursuing No. 5 Pick Otherwise

The Sacramento Kings have dangled out the number five pick in the 2012 NBA Draft a lot. There's a good chance the players they really like will not be available for them, so they've considered moving it for the right deal.

The Houston Rockets have made some offers before, and it's quite possible that if Sacramento doesn't like the options available for them, they could be interested in what Houston has to offer. Chad Ford and Marc Stein of ESPN have the following update.

Trade talks between the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets have intensified in the hours leading up to Thursday night's NBA draft and have put the Rockets in position to acquire the Kings' No. 5 pick if Sacramento elects to trade it, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com the Kings plan to wait as long as possible before committing to the trade to see who falls to them at No. 5. It's believed that Sacramento will walk away from the trade if Kansas' Thomas Robinson is still available after four picks are made.

The reason the Rockets want the number five pick isn't to really pick anyone, but give the pieces the Orlando Magic desire so they can trade for Dwight Howard and somehow try and get him to stick around after next year.

Sacramento Kings Offseason: Tyreke Evans Being Shopped To Houston?

Various sources have waffled back and forth about whether or not the Houston Rockets have offered the Sacramento Kings the no. 14, no. 16 and Kyle Lowry for Tyreke Evans and the no. 5 pick in the NBA Draft.

A tweet from Draft Express says that Houston has made the offer and it's up to the Kings on whether or not to pull the trigger on the deal. But SI.com's Sam Amick also tweeted that the Rockets have not made the offer.

For the Rockets, the deal would be a step in the direction of trying to get the Orlando Magic to budge on a potential deal for Dwight Howard. But for the Kings, it would be a way to break up a roster full of guys who need the ball in their hands to be effective. Lowry is a bull on defense and would make a good combo with Isaiah Thomas at the point guard position. With the no. 5 pick, they could add another shooter or a big and continue to revamp their roster.

Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings Could Deal Pick To Houston Rockets

So the Sacramento Kings probably have no idea what to do with their pick. The best players will be long since taken, and the players they want are probably a little bit too low on the draft order.

So how can the Kings help Dwight Howard get moved? By making a trade with the Houston Rockets, who desperately want to bring in the Magic center and are willing to get the deal going after landing a multitude of huge draft picks.

Chad Ford and Marc Stein of ESPN files this latest report that would have Houston making a deal with Toronto and Sacramento to get the picks necessary to make a deal with Orlando.

Upon hearing of Sunday night's developments, one rival general manager told ESPN.com that he believes Houston's real aim is acquiring two top-10 picks this week to turn around quickly and offer both to the Orlando Magic as part of a considerable trade offer for Dwight Howard.

The Rockets' willingness to trade for Howard -- even without the All-Star center's signature on a contract extension -- is an open secret around the league. But it's believed that two top-eight picks, assuming Houston managed to complete trades with both Sacramento and Toronto, would seriously pique the interest of new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan, who could then quickly start following the same sort of roster-building blueprint relied on by his previous employers in Oklahoma City.

Kings Draft Rumors: Rockets Could Deal Kyle Lowry For No. 5 Pick

The Sacramento Kings have a draft pick that they could potentially deal if they don't feel strongly about who they can pick it up. With top prospects like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Thomas Robinson likely going out after the top four, Sacramento not likely who they can pick up with the fifth spot and try and trade down and find a better spot later on in the draft if they don't like what they see here.

The Houston Rockets are actively looking to move up in the draft. which could mean the Kings might have a potential trading partner if they decide to move the pick. Chad Ford and Marc Stein of ESPN has this report.

Although sources stressed that no deal is imminent, Sacramento (No. 5) and Toronto (No. 8 ) have let Houston know that their top-10 selections are available. Sources say that the Rockets, in turn, have made both of their first-round picks available (No. 14 and No. 16), but the key to any trade going through could be point guard Kyle Lowry.

The Raptors have been especially fond of Lowry, who has been regarded for months as a borderline untouchable in Houston but more recently has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Rockets coach Kevin McHale. Whether the Rockets are indeed prepared to part with Lowry, as talks with the Kings, Raptors and other teams continue, figures to be one of the bigger stories of draft week.

Tyreke Evans Trade Rumors: Should Sacramento Make Deal With Chicago Bulls?

There will be constant speculation with Sacramento Kings fans about what to do with their fifth pick in the 2012 NBA draft. Sacramento might keep it or feel like it's better if they trade it away. There's a lot of different ways these guys could end up swinging regarding this selection.

One ESPN Chicago writer suggests the Chicago Bulls snatching the pick and grabbing Tyreke Evans by dealing Joakim Noah.

Evans could run the point while Derrick Rose recovers from knee surgery, then play alongside him when he comes back. The Bulls desperately need a second shot-creator, and Evans could be that guy. Evans has underachieved defensively in the NBA, but Tom Thibodeau would cure him of that. He has the physical traits of someone that should be an elite defensive guard.

Why Sacramento would ever consider making a trade for another center when they already have a center is beyond me. Perhaps the more logical deal is for Luol Deng, as Evans would probably be asked to play small forward with the Bulls and Deng (still fairly young at 27) could provide that veteran presence the young Kings desperately need in the locker room.

In other news, the Kings worked out Jamelle Barrett in the possibility of finding players for their summer-league roster.

Tyreke Evans Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings Guard Works Out With Geoff Petrie

The Sacramento Kings might be entertaining trade offers for Tyreke Evans. Evans has continued to produce since blowing up in his rookie season, but he hasn't shown much improvement or evolution in his game and there's danger that his game has peaked. That might mean his value won't get much better on the trading market, which would mean the Kings should look to make deals.

The Kings could also lean toward keeping him and see what he'd do at full health.

That is encouraging news for those who hope that Evans returns next season. If Sacramento is looking closely at the way Evans is playing and they like what they see, there's a good chance that the Kings could keep him. This is the 2009-10 Rookie of the Year after all.

It should be noted that Evans has struggled with foot problems in recent years, which might have limited his offensive mobility and effectiveness, while also causing him defensive issues. So maybe the Kings

Tyreke Evans Trade Rumors: Toronto Raptors Intrigued

The Sacramento Kings could shake up their young core this offseason to try and move them in the direction of being a playoff contender in the near future. Sacramento could end up shopping one or two of their younger players to try and obtain a veteran.

Tyreke Evans is the players who will be mentioned in trade rumors a lot this offseason. Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld has already reported the Toronto Raptors have inquired about Tyreke along with a host of other players in the NBA.

That being said, what could the Raptors offer that the Kings would want? Jose Calderon? Andrea Bargnani? DeMar DeRozan? None of these guys are worth Tyreke by themselves, and it's unlikely Toronto would gut their team to make this deal work.

The only way this might happen is if Sacramento could ask for one of those players and grab Toronto's draft picks. And then perhaps Sacramento could package their two top ten draft picks for an even better player. The possibilities are endless the further you go down the rabbit hole.

Talk about the thought of the Kings trading Tyreke to Toronto with Sacramento fans at Sactown Royalty. Raptors fans can hit up Raptors HQ for their thoughts on Evans in Canada.
