2011 NBA Trade Deadline: Warriors Trade Wright, Gadzuric to New Jersey for Troy Murphy, 2nd rounder

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets have reached an agreement to trade Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric for Troy Murphy and a 2nd round pick.

For the Warriors, this sees the exodus of a player in Wright that they had once hoped to build around, drafting him with the 8th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. But injuries have derailed what looked to be a promising start, and he hasn’t played more than 39 games in a season as of yet, with only 21 so far this year.

For New Jersey, there really is very little risk in giving Wright a chance to fulfill what was once considered lofty potential. They only give up a 1st rounder and an expiring contract in Murphy who barely played at all.

Gadzuric and Murphy are both expiring contracts, and according to Wojnarowski, Murphy’s return to Oakland will likely not be for long, as he is expected to be bought out of his contract.

Murphy is then expected to decide between joining playoff teams such as Orlando, Boston, Miami, Dallas, etc.
