Raiders To Bring In Veteran QB Jim Sorgi For Workout On Tuesday

Stay connected for news and updates

According to a tweet from Adam Caplan, veteran quarterback Jim Sorgi will work out for the Raiders on Tuesday. Caplan cited Sorgi's agent as his source.

Sorgi will battle Rhett Bomar and Terrelle Pryor for the third-string quarterback spot behind incumbent starter Carson Palmer and recently signed Matt Leinart.

Bomar and Pryor are both inexperienced and last year's backup, Kyle Boller, is an unrestricted free agent and has not been signed , so bringing in Sorgi as a possible veteran would make sense if the Raiders pulled the trigger.

Sorgi, 31, is known around football as Peyton Manning's longtime backup but he hasn't played since 2009. In six years backing up Manning, Sorgi only threw 156 passes for 929 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. Sorgi has never started a game in the NFL and had a career-high five appearances in 2005 where he went 42 for 61 for 444 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
