2012 NFL Draft: Oakland Raiders Select Tony Bergstrom With First Pick At No. 95

With the 95th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select Tony Bergstrom, OL, Utah .

The Raiders, due to a number of moves in the last year, have had no picks until this one, a compensatory selection. With it, they decide to address their offensive line. Tony Bergstrom is a large, versatile lineman who can provide depth for an offensive line that is moving Stefen Wisniewski to center with the loss of Samson Satele. Bergstrom will be able to spell Cooper Carlisle at left guard and provide depth for numerous positions along the line.

Bergstrom is 6'5", 313 pounds. He is a right tackle by trade, The Raiders have gone through a number of right tackles lately so Bergstrom will team with Joseph Barksdale in providing depth and talent at that position, and whatever other line spots need depth. The Raiders needed depth on defense as well, but there are a lot more secondary and linebacker prospects later on than there are genuine prospective starting tackles.

The Raiders might have taken a more polished tackle like Bobby Massie or Zebrie Sanders, but the Raiders have so little depth along the line that Bergstrom's experience and ability at every single offensive line spot obviously gave him the edge over other prospects.

This pick was announced by Raiders Hall of Famer Willie Brown.
