2012 NFL Draft Results, AFC West: Broncos Get Derek Wolfe At Pick No. 36

With the No. 36 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have selected defensive tackle Derek Wolfe out of Cincinnati. Terrell Davis was on hand to announce the selection. Wolfe is a bit of a surprise at the pick, given the fact that there's still guys like Jerel Worthy and Devon Still on the board, but he's a giant of a man and the if he plays half as good as he is big, the Broncos should be fine.

Here's what National Football Post said of Wolfe in their scouting report:

Impression: A high motor, had working kid who finds the football and uses his length to make plays. Doesn't have the anchor to play inside in a 43 front at the next level. However, as a two gap five-technique in a 34 he's got the skill set to fight for playing time in a rotation and create some negative plays vs. the run.

Wolfe is the first pick of the draft for the Broncos, as they traded back out of the first round when they didn't see any "must-have" players at No. 25. The New England Patriots were happy to move up and take Dont'a Hightower, the inside linebacker out of Alabama. That trade put Denver at No. 31, (while picking up No. 126 as well), and then they traded back from that - sending No. 31 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers along with the aforementioned No. 126 for No. 36 and No. 101 from Tampa Bay. The Bucs drafted running back Doug Martin at No. 31, a player most thought the Broncos would take in that situation.
