Al Davis Claims False Adultery Report Caused Al Michaels' Backlash

Well, if things were not incredibly weird between Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and sports personality Al Michaels before, they most certainly are now.

According to Davis (well, the Raiders P.R. director Mike Taylor actually), the reason why Michaels felt like attacking him in the first place was because of a false report allegedly started by Davis claiming Michaels had cheated on his wife; back in 1997. Not only was this report false, it was a radio show prank meant to be comical that Michaels’ salty demeanor didn’t appreciate. Here’s P.R. Director Taylor, speaking for Al Davis:

“We have no idea what Michaels was blathering about. I do remember Michaels being associated with an ultimately bogus report [prank] about adultery and other misdeeds and he thought Al Davis had something to do with it. Al Davis had nothing to do with it.”

With all due respect, maybe Mr. Davis was simply confusing Al Michaels with his former Monday Night Football colleague Frank Gifford.

Just saying.
