Raiders Training Camp 2011: Bruce Campbell Fails Physical, Position Up In Air

Just about a week after talking about how great he felt on Eyes Radio, Bruce Campbell has reportedly failed a physical and is heading to the physically-unable-to-perform list. According to Vittorio Tafur, Campbell isn't yet on the list (Trevor Scott is on the list, still recovering from last season's knee ligament injury) but "probably will be."

Campbell is set to play tackle this upcoming season. Or perhaps he's set to play right guard. Or maybe ... well, it's actually unclear at this point. Most had assumed that Campbell would get a look at the right tackle position, but that he would eventually settle at right guard, where Cooper Carlisle played in 2010. Of course, it was never that simple, since Chuck Carroll of Football News Now reported that Campbell had confirmed the position switch to right tackle on July 21st.

That's all well and good, except for the fact that Jerry McDonald has now tweeted that Campbell doesn't know which position he'll play:

OL Bruce Campbell says he hasn't heard what position he'll be playing. Played some T at Atlanta camp. Will play anywhere. Prefers OT

Chalk it up to new head coach Hue Jackson not wanting to make any decisions prematurely. Campbell would be happy anywhere, and just might be suited for tackle, but that's something they really need to discover in training camp and practice, not a conclusion they come to while sitting on the couch.

Either way, he's not going to be playing any position until that injury — whatever it is — clears up.
