Rolando McClain Arrested: Oakland Raiders Linebacker Denies Wrongdoing

Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain has denied firing his gun and denied being part of the fight that led to the alleged gun shots. His attorney stated that he was confident McClain would be cleared of all charges. McClain was arrested Thursday and charged with discharging a firearm in public, third degree assault, menacing and reckless endangerment. He was released on $2,000 bail Thursday afternoon.

The incident revolves around a fight that reportedly occurred Wednesday evening involving three childhood friends. The alleged victim, Richard Tapscott, claimed he was ambushed by McClain and a mutual friend, Jerradius Willingham. The police were called and took a statement from Tapscott. Since it was a misdemeanor, police could not immediately arrest McClain without further information. They did some more investigating and Thursday they issued and executed an arrest warrant for McClain.

McClain's status for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins is uncertain at this point. He is out of jail and awaiting the eventual legal proceedings. As Silver & Black Pride points out, it is entirely possible this will not go to trial until after the season ends. At the same time, McClain could still face a suspension given the way the NFL's personal conduct policy operates. It is the first charge against McClain so it is possible Goodell will wait before issuing any sort of suspension.
