Al Saunders On Carson Palmer Starting: "As Long As He's Breathing"

Stay connected for news and updates

The Oakland Raiders apparently really do not want to see quarterback Kyle Boller starting for them, even if it is for only one week. A day after head coach Hue Jackson non-committal on starting Carson Palmer this Sunday, offensive coordinator Al Saunders all but assured fans Palmer would start. During an appearance on Fescoe in the Morning on 610 Sports Radio, Saunders was asked what it would take for Palmer to the starter. Saunders' response? "As long he's breathing."

Well, then. That would seem to say more about Kyle Boller's potential as starter than Carson Palmer's own viability his first week with the team. Saunders seemed impressed by what he saw from Palmer in limited action. Although Palmer has been away from the game for a good while now during his semi-retirement, it sounds like he made some impressive throws on Tuesday. It helps that he would spend much of Sunday handing off to Darren McFadden, but he will need to have enough knowledge of the playbook and enough of the rust worn off, to help the Raiders.

The Raiders will release their first practice participation report later this afternoon, which will give us a better idea of the team's plans for Palmer this Sunday.
