Athletics Vs. Mariners Final Score: Oakland Completes Sweep With 4-2 Win

The Oakland Athletics responded to being swept by the Los Angeles Angels at home by storming back and sweeping the Seattle Mariners on the road. They completed the three-game sweep of their division rivals on Sunday with a 4-2 victory.

With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Jonny Gomes blasted his 16th home run of the year. The three-run shot put Oakland on top and proved to be the difference in the game.

The A's didn't let the tight game faze them and tacked on a big insurance run in the top of the ninth, as Josh Donaldson once again led off the inning with a home run.

Tom Milone picked up the win by allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks in six innings of work. Milone struck out 10 Mariners batters as he improved to 12-10.

Athletics Vs. Mariners: Tommy Milone Eyes Series Sweep

The Oakland Athletics are hoping to finish their road series against the Seattle Mariners with a sweep on Sunday, turning to youngster Tommy Milone to get the job done at Safeco Field.

Against the Angels on Sept. 3, Milone (11-10, 3.94) gave up five runs on a season-high-tying 10 hits, lasting just three innings before getting yanked. He is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts against Seattle, tossing seven scoreless innings in his last outing at Safeco back in the end of June.

Seattle will counter with Jason Vargas (14-9, 3.85), who is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA in his last six home starts. He was solid in his last outing against Boston, holding them to just one run on six hits in seven innings of work en route to a 4-1 win. Vargas is also 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA in his last five starts against Oakland.

Look for George Kottaras to stay hot for the A's, who has two homers and five RBIs in the last two games. He's also 6 of 19 with four homers and 13 RBIs in his last five games.

First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. PT with coverage on CSN California and 95.7 The Game.

Athletics Vs. Mariners Final Score: Brett Anderson Dazzles Once Again In 6-1 Win

The Oakland Athletics continued their dominance of the Seattle Mariners on Saturday evening, defeating their rivals by a final score of 6-1.

The A's got on the board first when Josh Reddick scored on a fielding error in the top of the first inning. The Mariners tied things up in the bottom of the second when Trayvon Robinson managed an RBI groundout.

Oakland put together a big four-run fourth inning against Hisashi Iwakuma, scoring on a Stephen Drew single, a home run from George Kottaras and an RBI double from Coco Crisp. Yoenis Cespedes drove in the final Oakland run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.

Brett Anderson was once again lights-out, going six innings and allowing one run on six hits and no walks to improve to 4-0 since coming off the disabled list. The A's will go for the sweep on Sunday.

Athletics Vs. Mariners Preview: Game Time, TV Schedule, Starting Pitchers And More

The Oakland Athletics got back to winning on Friday night, beating Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners, 6-1. They look to keep things rolling on Saturday with unbeaten Brett Anderson (3-0, 0.90 ERA) on the mound.

Anderson has looked phenomenal since returning from Tommy John surgery, giving up only two runs in 20 total innings across his three starts. That's been crucial for an Oakland pitching staff dealing with Bartolo Colon's 50-game suspension and will continue to be crucial with Brandon McCarthy now missing an undetermined amount of time after his horrific accident.

Seattle will counter with Hisashi Iwakuma (6-3, 3.14 ERA), who is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA over his last four starts. Oakland last saw Iwakuma out of Seattle's bullpen when he gave up one run over 3 2/3 innings in a 2-1 Oakland win.

Athletics Vs. Mariners Final Score: Oakland Roughs Up King Felix In 6-1 Win

The Oakland Athletics bounced back nicely from their sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels. On Friday night, starting a series on the road against the Seattle Mariners and Felix Hernandez, the A's picked up a decisive 6-1 win.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-out RBI single in the first inning to get the scoring started. The Mariners answered back in the bottom of the second inning, as Brendan Ryan made it 1-1 with a two-out RBI single of his own.

George Kottaras delivered the big blow with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth -- his seventh of the year -- to give Oakland a 4-1 lead. Oakland tacked on two more runs in the fifth thanks to RBI hits from Josh Donaldson and Stephen Drew.

The A's scored all six of their runs (five earned) off of Hernandez, who lasted just 4.2 innings and gave up 11 hits and a walk. A.J. Griffin stayed perfect, running his record to 5-0. Griffin allowed one run on six hits and a walk in 5.1 innings of work.

Brandon McCarthy's Injuries Life Threatening, Per Trainer

Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy remains in critical condition after being struck in the head by a line drive on Wednesday afternoon. McCarthy underwent a two-hour surgery to repair the damage and he was resting comfortably as of Friday morning.

Unfortunately for the 29-year-old pitcher and his family, McCarthy is not out of the woods by any means and is still battling for his life, according to the team trainer. Here is the latest from Oakland:

Doctors are still holding out hope for a full recovery, although McCarthy has a long road ahead of him. Everything right now is being taken on an hour-by-hour basis and we can only hope for the best.

Stay tuned to SB Nation Bay Area for the latest updates on McCarthy's recovery.

Athletics Vs. Mariners: A.J. Griffin Locks Horns With Felix Hernandez

Fresh off a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels, the Oakland Athletics are looking to get back in the win column Friday night against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

The A's will send out rookie phenom A.J. Griffin (4-0, 2.26), who became the first pitcher in Oakland history to begin 4-0 as a starter. He was lights out in his last start, retiring the first 14 batters he faced while allowing just one run with noen route to a 7-1 victory over Boston.

Griffin and the A's will have their hands full with Felix Hernandez (13-6, 2.51 ERA), who suffered his first defeat since June 12 in his last start. He allowed five runs over 7.1 innings in a 5-2 loss to the Angels, but still owns the majors' lowest ERA while going 9-0 with a 1.40 ERA over his last 14 starts.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PT with coverage on CSN California and 95.7 The Game.
