The Oakland Athletics had analysts saying they weren't for real after dropping the first game of their series against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. On Tuesday, they made quite a statement as they out-slugged the fearsome Los Angeles lineup in a 10-4 win.
Jonny Gomes got things started by hitting a one-out solo home run in the first inning. In the third inning, two runs came home on a bases-loaded fielding error that seemed like a sure-fire double play, Adam Rosales hit a sacrifice fly and Jemile Weeks tripled in a run to make it a quick 5-0 in favor of Oakland. Gomes added another RBI single in the fifth and Derek Norris and Rosales hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth to make it 9-0.
Mike Trout led off the eighth with his 20th home run of the year but the next three Angels went down in order. The Halos proved tough to kill, as Alberto Callaspo hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, but 10-4 would be as close as the Angels could get.
Bartolo Colon gave up one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings of work to improve to 9-8.
