On Monday, the Oakland Athletics kicked off an important three-game series against their division rivals the Los Angeles Angels. The A's ran into a brick wall in the form of Los Angeles ace Jered Weaver as they were shut out by a final score of 4-0.
The Angels struck first, getting two runs off of Oakland starter Jarrod Parker in the top of the second inning on RBI singles from Erick Aybar and Mike Trout.
They added two more runs on a single from Torii Hunter in the seventh inning, which was more than enough run support for Weaver.
Wever struck out nine A's batters in the four-hit, complete game shutout. Oakland starter Jarrod Parker allowed all four runs in 6.2 innings on nine hits and a walk. With the loss, the A's fall to third place in the American League West.
