The Oakland Athletics picked up their fifth straight win on Wednesday night as they once again defeated the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The A's defeated the Indians by a final score of 8-4.
Jason Donald launched a home run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Indians a 1-0 lead and snap a prolonged scoreless streak against Oakland. Jason Kipnis added an RBI groundout in the third to make it 2-0 Cleveland.
Josh Donaldson launched a three-homer to left field in the top of the fourth to give Oakland a 3-2 lead. It was a lead they would never give up. Derek Norris contributed an RBI groundout in the sixth to make it 4-2. Seth Smith and Chris Carter each picked up an RBI hit in the seventh to make it 6-2.
Brent Lillibridge hit a sacrifice fly and Casey Kotchman hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Oakland lead back down to 6-4, but the A's weren't finished. In the top of the ninth, Yoenis Cespedes hit an RBI single and Josh Reddick hit an RBI double to get those two runs back.
When all was said and done, the A's had out-hit the Indians, 15-6. Oakland starter Travis Blackley was solid, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.
The Athletics will go for the four-game sweep of the Indians on Thursday morning.
