The Oakland Athletics have optioned recently acquired reliever Jesse Chavez to Triple-A, the team announced on Sunday.
The Athletics purchased Chavez's contract from the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Chavez has spent most of his season with the Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. He has appeared in nine games of the Blue Jays this year, starting twice. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 8.44.
Chavez's last appearance in the majors came against the Athletics on August 4. He picked up the win for the Blue Jays, pitching one inning.
Chavez is 7-11 with a 5.74 ERA over his five year major league career.
The Athletics have Sunday off before heading to Cleveland to finish the seven-game road trip with a four game series against the Cleveland Indians. The A's are currently six games back on the Rangers for the AL West lead, and tied with Baltimore and Tampa Bay at the top of the wild card standings.
