The Oakland Athletics made another strong statement on Sunday as they closed out their three-game series against the Cleveland Indians at O.co Coliseum. The A's picked up the win -- and the series sweep -- with a decisive 7-0 victory behind Jarrod Parker, who tossed eight shutout innings.
Coco Crisp drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning. Brandon Moss added a solo home run in the fourth to make it 2-0. Crisp blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to push the lead to 5-0.
Oakland added two more runs in the sixth, on a double from Jemile Weeks and one last RBI single by Crisp. Crisp finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and a whopping 5 RBI from the leadoff spot.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Smith will more than likely begin a rehab assignment on Monday, A's manager Bob Melvin announced Sunday.
Seth Smith will probably start his rehab assignment Monday, Melvin says.

Smith was placed on the DL after straining his left hamstring in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays back on Aug. 2. If his rehab assignment goes according to plan, he could rejoin the Athletics later in the week when they take on the Minnesota Twins followed by the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 23.
Smith is in his first season with Oakland after playing for the Colorado Rockies from 2007-2011. He is batting .237 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and a .342 OBP.

On Saturday, the Oakland Athletics celebrated a very special day and picked up a big win, to boot. While the A's welcomed back some local heroes on the 10th anniversary of the 2002 20-game winning streak, a crowd of over 30,000 was on hand in O.co Coliseum to witness a big 8-5 win over the Cleveland Indians.
The A's cracked the game open with a four-run third inning. Josh Donaldson got things started with an RBI groundout, Josh Reddick followed up with a two-out RBI double and Yoenis Cespedes blasted his 16th home run of the year to quickly make it 4-0 Oakland. George Kottaras contributed an RBI single in the sixth inning to push the lead out to 5-0.
Carlos Santana finally got the Indians on the board with a solo home run in the top of the seventh, but Cespedes got that run right back in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-1.
The A's tacked on two last insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with a Coco Crisp triple. The Indians showed they still had some life in them, as Shin-Soo Choo blasted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth off of reliever Evan Scribner. Scribner gave up a hit between the first two outs of the inning. Jerry Blevins came on in relief but served up a two-run homer to Brent Lillibridge that cut the Oakland lead to 8-5. Blevins then served up a single to Jason Donald and was lifted for Grant Balfour. Balfour was able to strike out Ezequiel Carrera to end the game.
Bartolo Colon pitched another gem before the bullpen took over and gave the home crowd a scare. Colon picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits and no walks in eight innings of work.

After winning the first game of the series 6-4 Friday night, the Oakland Athletics will try to win the series when they take on the Cleveland Indians Saturday night.
The Athletics will send Bartolo Colon to the mound, looking for his 10th win of the season. Colon began his career with the Indians, starting 160 games for the team from 1997-2002. Indians starter Corey Kluber doesn't have quite as much experience as Colon, as Saturday will be just his fourth Major League Start. In his first three starts this season, Kluber is 0-1 with an 8.56 ERA.
Derek Norris will get a day off from behind the plate Saturday, with George Kottaras doing the catching for the Athletics. After batting second in the lineup Friday, and going 0-4, Jemile Weeks bats ninth. Weeks has spent most of this season batting either first or second but is hitting a paltry .219.

The Oakland Athletics had one bad break in their series opener against the Cleveland Indians on Friday night, but were able to battle back and pick up a crucial 6-4 win.
The Indians scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning against Tom Milone, when Shelley Duncan hit a grand slam.
The A's managed to battle back to within a run in the bottom of the inning. Josh Donaldson had an RBI double, Derek Norris picked up an RBI groundout and Cliff Pennington hit an RBI single to bring the score to 4-3. Chris Carter knotted things up in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly that drove in Yoenis Cespedes.
Donaldson was able to break the tie in the bottom of the eighth with a clutch bases-loaded RBI single and Pennington added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly. The Indians went quietly the rest of the way for the A's to pick up a big win on a night where both the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels lost.
