Athletics Vs. Rays Final Score: James Shields Befuddles Oakland Bats

The Oakland Athletics must have been depleted from their 15-inning marathon the night before, because they couldn't put up much of a fight against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The Rays evened up the series by shutting out the A's, 8-0.

B.J. Upton drove in the first Tampa Bay run with a single in the top of the third inning, then scored on a groundout to make it 2-0. They added three more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Jeff Keppinger and Sean Rodriguez and a sacrifice fly from Carlos Pena.

Desmond Jennings scored on a fielding error in the seventh and drove in a run with an RBI single in the ninth. Upton drove in the final Rays run on a force out.

James Shields held the A's to three hits and no walks in his complete-game shutout, while striking out 11 Oakland batters. The A's have struck out 32 times in their two games against Tampa Bay.

Tom Milone had his worst start of the season, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings.
