Athletics Vs. Red Sox Final Score: Oakland Walks Off With 3-2 Victory

On Tuesday night, the Oakland Athletics hosted the Boston Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series at O.co Coliseum. After trailing for much of the game, the A's managed to pull of a ninth-inning rally and pick up the 3-2 walkoff win to claim the first two games in the three-game series.

Coco Crisp led off the bottom of the first inning with his third home run of the year to open the scoring, but Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia tied things up right away with his 16th shot of the season in the top of the second. In the top of the fourth, David Ortiz came in to score on a fielding error to give the Sox a 2-1 lead.

The Boston pitching held the score at 2-1 until the bottom of the ninth, as Brandon Moss knocked in Chris Carter with a single and Cliff Pennington was able to take third base on a Red Sox error. Crisp then bookended the game by hitting a sacrifice fly to center field for the winning run and the walk-off victory.

Both starting pitchers ended up with quality starts. Bartolo Colon returned from the DL to allow two runs (one earned) in six innings of work on five hits and one walk. Boston starter Jon Lester went 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk, while striking out nine Oakland batters.

The A's will go for the clean sweep on Wednesday.
