Stay connected for news and updates

The Oakland Athletics kicked off their current homestand on Monday by hosting the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series. The A's took it right to the Sox behind starter Jarrod Parker and cruised to a 6-1 win.

The Sox scored their lone run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Dustin Pedroia, but Josh Reddick belted his 19th home run of the year in the bottom of the inning to tie things up.

In the bottom of the second, Oakland took the lead for good on a three-run homer from Brandon Moss and a sacrifice fly by Reddick. The A's tacked on another insurance run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Brandon Inge.

Parker was terrific again, giving up one run on six hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. Moss had two hits, finishing as the only Oakland player with a multi-hit game.
