The Oakland Athletics hammered the Minnesota Twins Saturday afternoon, picking up the win with a final score of 9-3. The A's took the lead with four runs in the top of the first and never looked back.
All four runs in the first came with two outs. After fly outs by Jemile Weeks and Seth Smith Josh Reddick reached on a single. A double to deep right by Yoenis Cespedes scored him, and Brandon Moss was hit by a pitch. That left two on for Chris Carter, who took full advantage with a three run homer to put the A's up 4-0.
The home runs kept coming: Cespedes hit a two run shot in the third, Smith a solo shot in the fifth, and Moss had a solo shot of his own in the sixth. Smith added another RBI on a triple to deep right in the ninth.
Brian Dozier and Josh Willingham had home runs for the Twins, but Minnesota's offense couldn't keep up. Tommy Milone gave up ten hits and two runs over six innings to get the win for the A's and improve to 9-6.
The A's are now 45-43 with the win and have a chance to sweep the Twins. Game 3 of the three game series is Sunday at 11:10 a.m. PT.
