Athletics Vs. Diamondbacks Final Score: Oakland Serves Up Walk-Off In 9-8 Loss

The Oakland Athletics traveled to Phoenix on Friday to kick off their second interleague series of the year. Their opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks was certainly a wild one. The A's came within one out of winning before giving up the walk-off win in a 9-8 loss.

The A's hung a crooked number early, as they plated a whopping six runs in the top of the sixth inning to open the scoring. Cliff Pennington hit an RBI double to put the A's on the board. Starting pitcher Tom Milone helped his own cause with a two-run single, Coco Crisp had an RBI double, Josh Reddick had an RBI single and Brandon Inge hit an RBI single to make it 6-0. The last three Oakland RBI in the inning all came with two outs.

The D-backs cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the frame, similarly scoring all three runs with two outs. Willie Bloomquist hit an RBI single and Jason Kubel followed up with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the fifth, Paul Goldschmidt hit his eighth home run of the year to cut the A's lead to 6-4.

Seth Smith hit a two-run homer of his own in the top of the sixth to stretch the Oakland lead to 8-4, but Arizona got those runs right back in the bottom of the frame with RBI hits by Kubel and Justin Upton.

Brian Fuentes came in for the save in the bottom of the ninth with the A's still up 8-6. With two outs, Fuentes walked Chris Young and gave up a single to Aaron Hill, bringing the winning run in Ryan Roberts up to the plate. Roberts got to be the hero of the night, as he hit a 2-1 sinker to left center field for a game-winning walk-off home run.

Reddick, Smith and Inge each had three hits in the game, while Pennnington, Crisp and Kurt Suzuki each had two.
