The Oakland Athletics were hoping to make the rest of the American League stand up and take notice as they hosted the New York Yankees over the weekend, but things didn't quite work out that way. With a 2-0 loss on Sunday, the A's were swept in three straight games at O.co Coliseum.
Andruw Jones led off the top of the second inning with a home run to get the Yankees on the board. The score stayed at 1-0 until the top of the seventh, when Mark Teixeira continued his hot series by doubling home Curtis Granderson.
The A's were effectively shut down by New York starter Hiroki Kuroda, who allowed just four hits and one walk over eight innings of work. The A's managed just five hits in the game, all singles.
Tom Milone pitched effectively for Oakland, but allowed two runs and eight hits over 6.2 innings.

The Oakland Athletics are hanging tough in the AL West, but will get some help coming next week as both Yoenis Cespedes and Manny Ramirez could be activated for their upcoming series with the Kansas City Royals, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea.
BP went great for Cespedes, is the word. Seems headed for Sac tomorrow to join Manny. Together again

The A's also made a roster change in the pitching department as The Oakland A's recalled pitcher Andrew Carignan from Triple-A Sacramento, while optioning pitcher Graham Godfrey to Sacramento.
Carignan has been with Oakland twice this season already, owning a 1-1 record with a 7.11 ERA in seven appearances. Godfrey is 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA for Oakland this season and had issues with a finger injury in his last start against on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the Oakland Athletics were once again unable to contain the potent offense of the New York Yankees. The A's were outhit and outplayed for the second straight day as they lost by a final score of 9-2.
The A's actually took the early lead on the bottom of the first, as Jonny Gomes hit a two-out RBI single. The Yanks tied it up in the top of the second on a Robinson Cano homer and went ahead 2-1 on a Derek Jeter single in the top of the third.
Oakland knotted things up again in the bottom of the third with the 13th homer of the year by Josh Reddick. The Yankees pulled ahead for good in the top of the fourth on a Mark Teixeira homer and the visiting team had the backbreaker inning in the fifth. Alex Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly and Teixeira hit a two-run RBI single. Jeter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth to make it 7-2 Yankees.
Teixeira hit his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth with one man on.
Bartolo Colon took the loss and fell to 4-5 on the year. He went six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and no walks.
The A's will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday.

The Oakland Athletics hosted the New York Yankees on Friday night and, as is perhaps to be expected, found themselves outgunned. Oakland starter Tyson Ross served up 11 hits and three home runs in a 6-3 A's loss.
The Yanks opened the floodgates in the top of the third, as Robinson Cano reached on a two-out error by Coco Crisp that allowed a run to score. The next batter, Mark Teixeira, hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0 Yankees.
The A's finally got on the board with a Josh Reddick solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, his 12th of the year, which ties him for sixth in the American League.
The Yankees hung another three-spot in the top of the fifth on home runs by Cano and Nick Swisher to push the Yankees lead to 6-1. In the bottom of the frame, Kurt Suzuki hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2. That run was the first run to score for Oakland that did not come on a solo homer for the first time in three games and 25 innings.
Kila Ka'aihue began a new streak by leading off the bottom of the seventh with a home run and bringing the A's within three. Unfortunately, the scoring would end there for both teams.

The Yankees are in town for a three-game series. Can the A's turn some heads in front of what will likely be their biggest home crowds of the year?
