Stephen Curry Injury Update: Warriors Point Guard Likely To Play In Season Opener

Although Golden State Warriors starting point guard Stephen Curry missed practice as late as Thursday due to an ankle injury and was listed as questionable for Sunday night's Opening Day matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers, it looks as though he's intending on playing in the game after all.

According to Matt Steinmetz of CSN Bay Area, Curry participated in the pregame walk-through on Sunday, appearing with the starting unit and performing his normal pregame shooting drills, although he was wearing a brace on his ankle.

Curry injured the ankle during an exhibition game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. If he is able to play in the game at near-full capacity, it would be a boost to the Warriors, who are going up against the suddenly-formidable and much-hyped Clippers in the opening game of the shortened season for both teams.

Stephen Curry Injury Update: Golden State Warriors Guard Doesn't Practice

The Golden State Warriors need to be extra-cautious when it comes to the health of their starting point guard Stephen Curry. Curry has experienced plenty of ankle issues throughout his basketball career, and whatever foot issue he suffered during a preseason matchup against the Sacramento Kings didn't at all help matters.

At this point, it's far from a certainty that Curry will be ready for action  for the season-opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on Christmas night. Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Stephen Curry was present at practice but did not participate and isn’t sure if he’ll play in the Christmas night opener vs. the Clippers.

He said he feels better than yesterday, and felt better yesterday than the night before that, and hopes to be ready for the Sunday opener.

But Curry also allowed that he is not sure when he’ll be back on the practice floor, let alone ready for a game, and that he absolutely doesn’t want to repeat last year’s stop-start cycle of ankle problems.

With Curry potentially being out, Golden State experiences a sharp downgrade in point guard. Charles Jenkins and Ish Smith are the backups, but neither has much experience handling major minutes. You'd expect Klay Thompson to handle a bit since Monta Ellis is locked in at the two spot, but Thompson is probably just as inexperienced.

Based on this news, Curry might be out for longer than just a game.

NBA Free Agents: Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors Pursuing Kyrylo Fesenko

The Golden State Warriors are trying to bulk up inside and land themselves a quality big man who can grab rebounds and play solid defense. Their first big target is Kyrylo Fesenko, who most recently played in the NBA with the Utah Jazz.

Fesenko has left the league to play in Europe most recently, but it appears as if two teams are still trying to vie for his services. One of them is the Warriors, who are looking for a backup center who provides quality minutes and tries to further instill the mindset of defense that Mark Jackson wants his team to believe. The other is the Miami Heat.

Rockets' signing of Dalembert takes them out of Kyrylo Fesenko bidding, but hearing Heat and Warriors still pursuing Ukranian free-agent C

The Heat really needed a big man presence to help bolster their chances at capturing a championship, as Miami's offense proved it could stagnate if they weren't able to produce points inside. Additionally, Fesenko's presence could bolster the Heat's interior D, which is generally their weak point. It'll be interesting to see if either team can land the Ukranian.

To discuss Fesenko on either team, head to Peninsula is Mightier (Heat) and Golden State of Mind (Warriors).

Stephen Curry Injury Update: Questionable For Christmas Opener, Who's Going to Deal With Chris Paul?

The Golden State Warriors have had themselves a rough start to their 2011-12 season thus far, with on the court problems with Stephen Curry’s ankle and off the court problems with franchise face Monta Ellis; though Curry’s problems seem to be much less stressful.

CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz reports that Curry is day-to-day with an ankle sprain to his surgically repaired ankle, leaving him questionable for the Christmas day opener against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Curry rolled the ankle right before halftime in Tuesday’s preseason meeting with the Sacramento Kings, and appeared to be in significant pain. He remaining on the floor for several minutes and had to be helped off by his teammates.

If Curry plays, he likely won’t be 100%, and will likely struggle to keep up with Chris Paul in a hobbled condition. If he doesn’t play, the pressure gets put on bench guys like Brandon Rush and Ish Smith, or maybe even rookie’s Charles Jenkins or Klay Thompson to step up in Curry’s place. The proverbial, no-win situation.

Curry missed eight games last season with variable ankle sprains, leading him to have offseason surgery to strengthen it, which apparently didn’t quite do it’s job. Starting off this shortened season without a guy like Curry is the last thing this team needs.

Stephen Curry Injury: Warriors Guard Injuries Ankle, X-Rays Negative

The Golden State Warriors received a scare on Tuesday night as star guard Stephen Curry went down with an ankle injury against the Kings, but x-rays concluded Curry had only suffered a sprain. There was some concern with the ankle injury, especially after he underwent surgery on it in the offseason, but the team can expect to have Curry back in the lineup in a couple of weeks (at the most).

Anyone who has ever sprained an ankle multiple times knows seemingly every sprain is different and various types of treatment work better than others. With the season opener less than a week away the Warriors will do whatever they can to get Curry's ankle healed, although he could potentially miss a few of Golden State's first few games. The team will have to wait and see how he progresses in the coming days.

This was a scary moment for the franchise, but it appears to be a minor injury. Fans should still be worried, though, especially Curry's history of ankle injuries continue to plague him throughout the season.

Stephen Curry Injury Update: Warriors Guard Hurts Ankle In Preseason Game, Going For X-Rays

The Golden State Warriors have big hopes for the 2011-2012 season, but their chances may have taken a big hit on Tuesday night. Playing against the Kings, star guard Stephen Curry went down with an ankle injury and had to be helped off the court. The severity of the injury was not known at the arena and he has since gone for x-rays. We will likely know more on his status in the near future.

Paired with Monta Ellis, the Warriors expected to have one of the most explosive -- if not the most explosive -- backcourt in the NBA. There were concerns with Curry's ankle heading into training camp after undergoing surgery; now all Golden State fans can do is hope their sharp-shooter is OK and the injury is nothing more than a sprain.

Warriors Trade Lou Amundson To Pacers For Brandon Rush, According To Report

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz, the Golden State Warriors will send forward Louis Amundson to the Indiana Pacers for guard Brandon Rush; which will become official on Monday according to Steinmetz.

Rush, 26, in coming into his fourth season in the league, played 67 games for Indiana last year, averaging 9.1 points and 3.2 rebounds a game for the Pacers in the regular season, and even got a taste of some postseason play against the Chicago Bulls last season.

As for Amundson, he had become a bit of an odd man odd with the W’s as Ekpe Udoh, Kwame Brown, David Lee and Andris Biedrins will likely be taking up most of the time in the post, as well as rookie big man Jeremy Tyler developing.

This move will help provide Golden State with more depth and options off the bench at the guard position, as well as taking some of the pressure off of rookie Klay Thopmson in his first year with this reconstructing franchise.

Golden State Warriors Sign SF Dominic McGuire

As the Golden State Warriors prepare for their Christmas Day home opener against the new look Los Angeles Clippers, the team was in need of adding some extra depth to their bench, thusly signing small forward Dominic McGuire according to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz.

McGuire, 26, played 52 games during the 2010-11 campaign with the Charlotte Bobcats where he averaged 3.3 points per game and 3.8 rebounds a game in around 14 minutes a game.

Terms of McGuire’s deal haven’t been disclosed, but Steinmetz believes he signed a one-year deal for right around $1 million, likely under.

The Warriors were looking for another backup small forward behind Dorell Wright as only rookie Klay Thompson was behind Wright on the depth chart. McGuire is considered more of a defensive player than an offensive one, likely the reason why defensive minded Mark Jackson picked the fifth-year veteran.

McGuire, who played his college ball at Fresno State, also had a short layover in Sacramento with the Kings in 2009-10, staying with the team for only 10 games before heading back to the Wizards, where he played his first two seasons in the league.

Golden State Warriors Sign Klay Thompson, Jeremy Tyler After Not Picking Up DeAndre Jordan

The Golden State Warriors have brought on their rookies. With DeAndre Jordan headed back to the Los Angeles Clippers, it made sense to bring on Klay Thompson and Jeremy Tyler as soon as possible. Matt Steinmetz of CSN Bay Area reports

The Warriors would normally have signed their draft picks a lot earlier, but Golden State wanted to set their money aside to try and give Jordan the best offer possible before making their commitments to both Thompson and Tyler.

Both could make immediate contributions as rookies. Thompson is likely to be a primary contributor off the bench at the guard/forward spot behind Monta Ellis and Dorell Wright, while Tyler will have a tougher uphill road with Kwame Brown, David Lee, Ekpe Udoh and Lou Amundson all in front of him. It's likely that Tyler will end up on the D-League squad for the Warriors before seeing action on the court.

2011 NBA Free Agency: Warriors Sign Kwame Brown To One-Year Deal

Kwame Brown is no longer expected to live up to the hype of being a no. 1 pick, but he will have to do what he's proven he can do - defend. And that's all the Warriors will ask him to do after signing him to a one-year, $7 million dollar deal.

As Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski pointed out in a tweet, Brown gives the Warriors something that new head coach Mark Jackson is looking for which is a defender. He won't score outside of putbacks, layups and dunks but he has proven to be a great post defender who can guard low-post threats one-on-one. The Warriors aren't exactly known as defensive stalwarts as a unit, so this is just another signing to help change the culture of the team heading into Jackson's first season.

Brown has career averages of 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in a 10-year career with five teams. His best season came in 2003-2004 when he averaged 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Washington Wizards.

NBA Free Agency 2011: Warriors Sign DeAndre Jordan To Offer Sheet, Await Clippers Response

The Golden State Warriors have made an official offer to Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, according to the official NBA website.

The 6'11" Jordan is a restricted free agent, so the Warriors are not allowed to sign him outright. Jordan has signed to an offer sheet and the Clippers are allowed three days to match Golden State's offer. If they decline to do so, the deal will become official. The Associated Press via the Washington Post has the specifics of the offer, which is said to be $42.7M over four years. The recent moves by the Warriors to waive Jeremy Lin and invoke an amnesty clause on Charlie Bell allowed the team to free up the money needed to make the offer to Jordan.

Tom Ziller of SB Nation noted on Saturday that Jordan was offered a five-year, $40M contract by Los Angeles which he turned down. As a result of pursuing free agency, his average annual salary will be $2M higher. Jordan's 2011-2012 salary would figure to be between $9M and $10M. There is no indication as of yet whether the Clippers will attempt to match the offer.

Jordan averaged 7.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.78 blocks over 80 games last season.

Golden State Warriors Amnesty Charlie Bell, Nix Qualifying Offer From Reggie Williams

The Golden State Warriors have parted ways with Charlie Bell and might not automatically sign up with Reggie Williams. The wishy-washy explanation as to why comes in the comments.

Warriors have amnestied Charlie Bell and rescinded qualifying offer to Reggie Williams, clearing room for DeAndre Jordan offer sheet.
Dec 11 via Plume FavoriteRetweetReply

It's a curious decision to use the amnesty on Bell, who is an expiring contract and wasn't really making that much money to begin with. The amnesty was put in place for teams to use it on a player with a big deal and a massive contract who was underperforming. Using it on Bell (who is making only a few million dollars) doesn't really free up cap space to sign a big-time free agent, and it wastes the amnesty for when it could be used on a bigger player who would really free up space.

The Warriors withdrawing their offer for Williams means that they're presumably going hard for DeAndre Jordan. Presumably both of these moves will free up enough space to get the man they want.

Golden State Warriors Waive Jeremy Lin

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz the Golden State Warriors have waived guard Jeremy Lin on the first day of team practice.

Lin, 23, was signed last year as a free agent in July by the Warriors and played in 29 games in his rookie year for the W’s, averaging 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He also played for the NBADL’s Reno Bighorns for 20 games during the season where he did very well, scoring 18.0 points, grabbing 5.8 rebounds and dishing out 4.3 a game.

Lin was thought to be a leading candidate for a backup guard spot behind Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis. But as Tim Kawakami points out on Twitter, the team is likely trying to piece together every possible dollar to make a run at a big name in free agency, possible the Los Angeles Clippers restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan or even the HornetsChris Paul.

Lin is a Bay Area native who played college ball for Harvard.

2011 NBA Free Agents: Warriors Prepared To Offer DeAndre Jordan $10 Million For '11-12 Season

The Golden State Warriors reportedly have an offer in place for Los Angeles Clippers restricted free-agent DeAndre Jordan that they will present to him on Friday, sources tell Yahoo! Sports, with the deal reportedly starting out around $10 million for the upcoming season, according to Justin Phan on Twitter.

The Warriors had originally desired free-agent center Tyson Chandler, but he is now closing in on a four-year, $58 million deal with the New York Knicks. The Warriors’ offer sheet hasn’t been completely finalized, as the $10 million offer is likely the beginning point of their negotiations.

Jordan has already been presented with a five-year, $40 million deal by the Clippers, who would love to keep their young nucleus of Jordan, Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon together. The Clippers will have three days to match any offers that Jordan signs off on.

2011 NBA Free Agents: Warriors Expected To Bid On DeAndre Jordan

According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors are expected to be one of the teams to bid on the services of Los Angeles Clippers restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan, along with a number of other top clubs around the NBA:

The bidding to sign Clips' DeAndre Jordan to an offer sheet Friday likely to include G-State, Houston, New Orleans and Denver, sources say.
Dec 08 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

All of these teams have a serious deficiency at the center positon as New Orleans expects to lose Tyson Chandler and the Nuggets expect to lose Nene. Chuck Hayes is also likely on his way out in Houston, meaning all of these clubs have serious motivation to get their hands on Jordan.

Jordan, the third year player from Texas A&M, averaged seven points and seven rebounds a game for the Clippers in 2010-11, playing around 26 minutes a game as well as 1.8 blocks a game. He would definitely shore up the W's interior defense as well as give them another legitimate option on the post along with David Lee. Jordan is much better than Chandler at creating his shot, and even more so at making it, which to me means he would be a better fit in the Bay than Chandler.

His status as a restricted free agent means he may be going no where, but the Warriors need to attempt to grab this up and coming big man.

2011 NBA Free Agents: Warriors Believe They've Lost Bidding War For Tyson Chandler

According to multiple sources the Golden State Warriors believe they have lost a bidding war for the services of free agent big man Tyson Chandler to the New York Knicks, according to multiple sources:

Per Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter:

The Warriors believe that they've lost Tyson Chandler to the Knicks, sources tell Y! Sports.
Dec 08 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

ESPN's Marc Stein goes even further:

Source close to Tyson Chandler talks just told http://t.co/Ir9HrM0O: "It's 98 percent sure that Tyson is going to wind up with the Knicks."
Dec 08 via UberSocial for BlackBerryFavoriteRetweetReply

With the Warriors now apparently out on Chandler, they must turn their attention to another possible big man to sign. Stein tweeted that the W's will focus on Los Angeles Clippers' restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan now, likely pushing as hard as they can to get him, for the center position needs an upgrade badly in the Bay.

2011 NBA Free Agents: Warriors Reportedly Offer Tyson Chandler 4-Years, Approx. $60 Million

According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Steinmetz the Golden State Warriors have offered free agent big man Tyson Chandler a contract for 4-years and around $60 million dollars in an attempt to make a push for the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

With talks with Chris Paul feigning away, the W's have moved their sights to Chandler as their No. 1 priority this offseason, and have been making quite the push to get him. The Warriors hope to have an answer from Chandler's camp on Friday, the first day of free agency. If Golden State knows that have a defensive lynchpin to build around what direction they could go with other moves.

Though one thing is for sure: If they want  to sign Chandler they will more than likely have to amnesty center Andris Biedrins, whom they still owe $27 million over the next three years.

Chandler would be an instant upgrade their defense around the rim, one of the most glaring areas of need for the W's. His rebounding on both ends of the court would be very helpful as well, giving guys like Dorrell Wright and Steph Curry second chances on their jumpers.

Chris Paul Trade Rumors: CP3 Will Reportedly Not Sign Extension With Warriors

Chris Paul has a lot of suitors for his services. The New Orleans point guard has put himself on the trading block, and there are plenty of offers out there. The Golden State Warriors have been putting out offers with Stephen Curry (and potentially Monta Ellis), but they won't make the deal unless Paul agrees to an extension.

Which he apparently won't. David Aldridge of NBA.com reports.

Chris Paul will not commit to signing a contract extension after this season with either the Golden State Warriors or Los Angeles Clippers if he is traded to either team by the New Orleans Hornets, citing the potential financial hit if he were to do that rather than becoming a free agent and signing a new deal with a new team next summer, according to league sources. That has left potential deals with both teams in limbo….

It'd make sense for Paul not to lock himself into an extension; he doesn't know how good his team might be when he gets traded. Almost the entire league knows he wants to join a big franchise like the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers, where there will always be superstars and there should be a greater possibility of being on a championship contender. The Warriors have a lot of issues, and it's hard for them to really be considered as a team that's on the rise until they make some big moves.

Until those moves are made, Golden State is probably going to drop behind other prospects in the race for the best point guard in the league.

To discuss the idea of CP3 possibly leaving the Hornets or potentially going to the Warriors, head to At The Hive (our New Orleans SB Nation community) and Golden State of Mind (our Golden State SB Nation community).

Stephen Curry Trade Rumors: Warriors Guard Believes He Won't Be Moved For Chris Paul

The Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry have been involved in a lot of rumor-mongering the past few days regarding New Orleans superstar Chris Paul. Apparently CP3 has been open to a trade, and the Hornets are willing to move him to the Warriors provided they give up someone like Curry.

Seems like Curry feels pretty secure with his place with the Warriors. Matt Steinmetz of CSN Bay Area has more.

"I talked to (general manager) Larry, (Riley) and talked to coach (Mark) Jackson about it. They told me pretty much the same thing: You’re safe and secure here. They want me here.

"Obviously, there’s the business of basketball and there are things that may happen with a GM having to make a decision for the best interest of the team. When you have a guy like Chris Paul, who is a franchise player, that’s something you really have to think about it with anybody on the roster. I understand that. I’m not going to be upset if they entertained that.
"It’s nice to be in the conversation with a guy like that. I know myself, I’d be part of a package, but that’s something that’s going to happen when you’re in this career, in this business, and you’ve got to run with it."

Monta Ellis has recently entered the discussion when it comes to the Paul rumors, which might be a good sign for Curry's prospects of staying with Golden State long-term. It's interesting that the Warriors remain so loyal to Curry despite the fact that he's unlikely to become an NBA All-Star. Perhaps the Warriors are also considering that even Paul gets traded to the Bay Area, he will probably not agree to a long-term deal with the team if Curry is not involved. So the rationalization to keeping Curry might be just as much for practical reasons as well.

For more on Curry and the Warriors, head on over to Golden State of Mind.

Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Warriors Willing To Deal Monta Ellis

Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets are probably nearing the end of what's been a fairly fruitful relationship for both sides. CP3 wants to play for a contender though, and it's looking very much like New Orleans isn't that.

The Hornets originally seemed to be interested in making a trade with several parties, and one of them included the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors seemed to at first be highly interested in acquiring perhaps the best pure point guard in the NBA, but they cooled off when the Hornets set their eyes on Stephen Curry. While the Warriors would love to have Paul, they know that losing Curry would make it less likely for CP3 to agree to sign to a long-term deal in Golden State.

So Golden State is looking at their other big bargaining chip. Marcus Thompson reports.

However, there may be a circumstance in which the Warriors would take CP3 on a rental … if New Orleans takes Monta Ellis.

One of the sources said Golden State is trying to get the Hornets to take Monta and pieces for CP3 instead of Curry. Not only can Curry play shooting guard because of his stroke, but he clearly has the most value and may help the Warriors make a serious play for Dwight Howard. Chandler and Curry for Dwight may sound appealing to Orlando come February. Getting Howard would be the Warriors’ best chance of convincing CP3 to sign long ter

Makes sense for the Warriors to try and deal Monta. With a distributor like Paul and a shooter like Curry, they probably complement each other better than the possession-heavy Ellis. The Warriors would probably be a more appealing team for a superstar like Howard, who is expected to also sign elsewhere when he hits free agency next summer.

To discuss the idea of CP3 and the Warriors, head to Golden State of Mind. To discuss the thought of Ellis with the Hornets, check out At The Hive.

Golden State Warriors Schedule 2011-2012: NBA Schedule Release Features Christmas Day Opener

The NBA released the official 2011-2012 NBA schedule Tuesday afternoon and the Golden State Warriors are one step closer to getting their season going as they get a look at their 2011-12 schedule. There are still numerous labor issues to be voted on and sorted out to get NBA free agency underway, but the season will get going on Christmas Day.

The Warriors will open their 2011-12 season hosting the LA Clippers as part of a five-game homestand to open the season. They will host the Clippers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers in December before heading out on a three-game road trip to start January. They wrap up the season with a two-game home stand against the New Orleans Hornets and the San Antonio Spurs.

Every team will get at least one tough stretch of back-to-back-to-back games and the Warriors stretch comes late in the season. The Warriors will play three straight road games April 20-22 against Dallas, Houston and Minnesota. They have another particularly tough stretch when they play four games in five days  two times in March.

The Warriors will be on national television 17 times including four games on TNT, six games on ESPN and seven games on NBA TV.

Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors Signing Tyson Chandler Boosts Their Chances

The Golden State Warriors don't look like they're messing around here. They have Mark Jackson coming in to lead the team and a new defensive mindset to try and get the team's mentality and direction all turned around. And they might be trying to pursue two players best suited to making those culture changes happen. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports.

New Orleans strongly engaged with Clippers, Warriors and Celtics in trade talks for Chris Paul on Tuesday, league sources tell Y!
Dec 06 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

Paul has indicated Clippers and Warriors could raise chances of keeping him long-term if they sign center Tyson Chandler too, sources say.
Dec 06 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

Chandler is a free agent who's taking his look around. It looks like his days with the Dallas Mavericks may be over after winning an NBA title. His defensive presence and rebounding were critical to ensuring the Mavs staved off some of the best in the West, and he'd be a great pickup for a Golden State defense that has struggled in both aspects of the game. Golden State seems very interested in signing him up.

Paul would have to be savoring at the prospect of playing with Chandler again; when the two were together and healthy, they nearly got to the Western Conference Finals. Their offense and defense would immediately lift the Warriors into the playoff race, if not making them instant contenders.

There's a lot of hope for optimism if you're a Warriors fan. New ownership, new coach, and potentially big-time players on their way. Definitely a leg up on the old way of doing things.

To discuss the possibility of Paul and Chandler going to the Warriors, head to Golden State of Mind. To discuss the possibility of Paul leaving the Hornets, head to At The Hive.

2011-12 NBA Schedule Release TV Schedule: Warriors Schedule To Be Announced On NBA TV

The NBA will announce the 2011-2012 NBA schedule Tuesday afternoon at 4:00pm pacific on NBA TV, at which point we will find out how this whole truncated schedule will work. Due to the league's extended lockout, the NBA will play a 66-game schedule with the playoffs bumped back a bit. The new schedule will feature 48 conference games and 18 non-conference games. The games will break down as follows:

Conference Games: 48
Play 6 teams 4 times (2 home, 2 away)
Play 4 teams 3 times (2 home, 1 away)
Play 4 teams 3 times (1 home, 2 away)

Non-Conference Games: 18
Play 3 teams 2 times (1 home, 1 away)
Play 6 teams 1 time at home
Play 6 teams 1 time away

Back to Back to Backs: All teams with at least 1; no more than 3

Playoff Back to Backs: Possible in second round

The back-to-back-to-back sets will be interesting, particularly depending on the team that gets them. A veteran team like the Celtics coming into town on the back end of three straight games could be ripe for an upset in such a scenario. It could make for some ugly basketball at the end of that kind of run.

The Warriors already know they will be playing on Christmas Day when they are reportedly going to host Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers. Their December home schedule is reportedly going to include games on December 17, 25, 26, 28, and 31. The Warriors are also slated to play two preseason games against the Sacramento Kings.

NBA Free Agents 2011: Tyson Chandler To Meet With Warriors

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, free agent big man Tyson Chandler will meet face-to-face with representatives from the Golden State Warriors next week, according to sources close to the situation.

Along with the W's, Chandler will meet with the New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets, who has a strong feeling that he won't be coming back to Dallas:

"I really think I'm going to be on a new team come training camp."

Many sources have noted that Golden State, Houston and New Jersey are the most serious suitors for Chandler, though the Nugs and Nets are still eyeing Brazilian big man Nene as well.

Contact between team executives, coaches and free agents will commence Monday at 10 a.m. ET. Free agency is scheduled to begin that following Friday, which is the first day teams will be allowed to make signings and trades, according to the NBA.

Golden State Warriors Offseason News 2011: Warriors Among 'Most Serious Suitors' For Tyson Chandler

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Golden State Warriors are one of the 'most serious suitors' for the veteran big man, that is of course if he can't work out a deal with the Dallas Mavericks

But make no mistake: Warriors rank among most serious suitors for Tyson Chandler. If TC and DAL can't work it out, GSW is spot he could land
Dec 03 via UberSocial for BlackBerryFavoriteRetweetReply

Along with either Nene or DeAndre Jordan, Chandler would be the best fits for the needs the W's have, with the most glaring being at the center position. There will definitely still be many teams vying for his services, but if the Warriors could land him it would send a message to the fans that they indeed want to start winning now. His impressive showing in last year's final proved he's still got a lot left to contribute and surrounded with guys like Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry, Dorell Wright and David Lee, that would be a pretty solid squad.

Golden State Warriors Offseason News 2011: Lou Amundson Still Has Beef With Nene

As the Golden State Warriors search for possible free agent acquisitions, one current Warrior has some lingering beef with one of their possible targets, Nene Hilario

Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle spoke with Lou Amundson at team headquarters after a Friday workout, and asked about his relationship with the Brazilian big man.

"I'm going to plead the fifth on this one," Amundson said. "I knew you were going to ask me that, but I'm going to plead the fifth."

Apparently there are some residual hard feelings as Amundson still hasn't gotten over a matchup with Nene back in 2009 when Lou was still with the Suns in which Nene head-butted, then elbowed Amundson and was immediately ejected.

Nene flagrant vs. Phoenix (via coronaftw)

After the game, Amundson said this to reporters:

"I'm playing hard and with a lot of energy, and Nene took exception to the fact that I was going to play physical back with him. I play hard, but he was playing dirty the whole game... I was not too surprised, because I know he's kind of a dirty player."

Later Amundson would continue:

"He's from Brazil, so I'm sure he knows about soccer tactics like the head butt.''

A clear reference to France's Zinedine Zidane header to chesty into Italy's Marco Materazzi during the 2006 World Cup final.

Nene then retorted:

"You learn that you don't let a stupid dude take you out of the game because he's nobody. He doesn't have much (game). ...  If I do a head butt, I break all of his face."

That was then and this is now, but it's obvious that these two probably aren't homies. Well, at least Lou hasn't seemed to get over this yet, maybe Nene has. Could you imagine a Warriors practice with these two? Yeah, me neither.

Golden State Warriors GM Larry Riley Discusses Offseason Gameplan

At a Thursday press conference at Oracle Arena, the first day players could use their facilities since the lockout, Golden State Warriors general manager Larry Riley discussed the team's offseason strategy in regards to their roster, noting that the team is in no rush to make any "hasty moves" in free agency.

With around $6 million in cap size currently, the W's could be seen as long, longshots to land a player like Nene, Tyson Chandler, or even Marc Gasol, though Riley is looking at the team with an elongated view, much further than this season:

"To make a mistake right now with this roster would set us back. We're going to come up with a decision that fits us but doesn't derail any progress that we could make."

In a perfect world according to Riley, the team would be able to sign two players- someone to pick up the mantle at the center position and bench player to add depth at the guard position. That could come in the form of someone like DeAndre Jordan, the current restricted free agent center from the Clippers (represented by assistant GM Bob Myers' old company, Wasserman Media Group), and Brandon Roy, who is expected to be amnestied by the Blazers.

But that is in a perfect world, a place that none of us live in.

"We have a team in place, based on players under contract and the expectation of signing the rookies, and it's very likely that we'll open the season with that roster in place," Riley said. "We need to add some depth, and we'd like to add some size. Then, we'll turn it over to Mark [Jackson]. We'll give him a reasonably good roster and let him go to work."

For some reason, I fell like I've heard this before...

Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Hornets Interested In Stephen Curry

The New Orleans Hornets probably know that Chris Paul is interested in the New York Knicks and wants to be traded. It's unlikely that the Knicks have the pieces that the Hornets would want, as Rohan of At The Hive points out.

New York has no draft pick assets, and neither of their two player assets - Landry Field and Toney Douglas - have star potential. Even if we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that Chris Paul will not be a New Orleans Hornet past June 1, 2012, there's no value to be derived from moving Paul to where he wants to go; it's worth more to take a stand as a small market team - make it clear that no, a team cannot throw away all its assets, not pay a price for it, and still pick up one of the league's top 5 players for nothing. It's worth more to force Chris Paul to eat millions of dollars in losses, and go from there.

So if the Knicks were to deal Paul, a third team would likely have to get involved for the Hornets to be willing to trade. New Orleans needs players they'd want. And it does appear the Hornets have their eyes set on one particular player to help ease the pain of losing the best point guard in the game.

Multiple NBA sources: If the Hornets consider trading Chris Paul, one player they really like is Stephen Curry & have told GSWs that.
Dec 01 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

But again, Warriors would need assurance from Paul that he'd consider re-signing here before going anywhere down that trade path. Doubtful.
Dec 01 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

Curry replacing Paul in the Big Easy makes some sense. Curry is fairly inexpensive compared to Paul, which would make him a more suitable fit for the small-market Hornets. Curry can distribute the basketball and is very good at scoring the basketball from the outside. He's no Paul for sure, but paired together with some other assets, he could ease the pain of the Hornets if they had to let him go.

This trade is unlikely though for a billion different reasons. For one, the Warriors don't want to deal Curry. They like him and want him to be the point guard for their future. With the Dubs probably having no shot at getting CP3, why would they be interested in being the third partner in this trade?

NBA Schedule: Golden State Warriors To Play Los Angeles Clippers In Christmas Day

The Golden State Warriors have been waiting for the regular season to start up. They'll get their chance on opening day on Christmas night.

The NBA originally had three games on Christmas Day, probably because there was an NFL game scheduled for Sunday night. They have now apparently expanded it to five to try and put in as many basketball games on the slate for starved fans of the game. The Warriors were a natural target for the late night contest.

The Warriors will play the Los Angeles Clippers in one of the five opening contests. Marcus Thompson of Inside Bay Area reports.

I’ve been told by a couple sources the Warriors will be part of the Christmas Day lineup of games to kick off the 2011-12 season. Golden State will host Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers at Oracle on Christmas Night, the fifth and final game on the NBA slate.

Obviously, things could change. But that’s what the planned schedule is now.

Golden State and Los Angeles should be a fine opening day matchup. Both the Warriors and the Clippers have high up-tempo offenses, and considering the long layoff with no training camp, it could be a fast game with lots of points. Should be a fun return to basketball.

NBA Free Agency 2011: Is The Warriors Budget Large Enough To Draw Big Name Free Agents?

The Golden State Warriors have already been contemplating making moves on big men Tyson Chandler, Nene, DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol, but just how likely are they to sign any of these big men? The W's retooled front office and young nucleus of Steph Curry and Monta Ellis could be appetizing to some, but we all know it will eventually come down to dollars cents for most of these guys. So just how much leeway does Golden State have with it's payroll? Let's take a closer look.

The Warriors' current payroll is around $51 million, a solid $7 million under the $58 million salary cap. If the team chose to use its amnesty option on Charlie Bell, who's set to earn $4.1 million in 2011-12, then the W's could be looking at around $11 million in cap space. They could also choose to waive someone like Andris Biedrins or David Lee and open up even more space.

That  $11-13 million range is right around the price guys like Nene are likely to garner, placing the W's in the thick of things if they so desired to be there. They could try and be agressive or sit back and see who comes on the market after other teams using their amnesty provision, providing a much cheaper option to pick up talent.

Whatever they choose, the fan base is licking their chops at what the Warriors could be, now it's the front office's job to wet their appetite.

NBA Free Agency 2011: Tyson Chandler Being Pursued By Golden State Warriors

Behind Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler was perhaps the most important piece to last year's title run for the Dallas Mavericks. Chandler set devastating screens and was the main force on the rebounding glass, and his defense helped clog up the paint for the Mavs. Dallas's main priority this offseason appeared to be toward resigning Chandler to make another run at a championship while all the players on the Mavs were still veterans.

Chandler returning to Dallas might not be as much a certainty as originally thought though. Chris Broussard and Marc Stein report.

In a surprise development on the first day that NBA teams and agents could start talking about new contracts, Tyson Chandler came away convinced that his time with the Dallas Mavericks is coming to an end.

"I really think I'm going to be on a new team come training camp," Chandler told ESPN.com in a telephone interview Wednesday night. "I'm really taking a hard look at all of my options, trying to see what best suits me."

Obviously, this might be posturing for Chandler to get a bigger deal from Dallas so he can be assured of finishing the rest of his prime years with Dallas and Nowitzki. It's not like Mark Cuban isn't reticent to spending for his players.

One of the teams that's pursuing Chandler the most is the Golden State Warriors (along with the New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors). The Warriors definitely have size issues that give them huge issues, and it makes sense why they'd want a rebounder like Chandler.

To discuss Chandler and the Mavs, head to Mavs Moneyball. To discuss the idea of Chandler and the Warriors, go to Golden State of Mind.

NBA Free Agents 2011: Warriors Interested in David West?

As the Golden State Warriors prepare for the start of the 2011 season, Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick tweeted earlier Wednesday that Golden State, along with a number of other teams, are interested in two-time All-Star David West, formerly with the New Orleans Hornets

Source says Indiana, New Orleans, G. State and Washington have all expressed interest in former Hornets forward/2-time All-Star David West.
Nov 30 via TwitterrificFavoriteRetweetReply

The Warriors showed some interest this morning when teams could start talking to player representatives once again, though with David Lee on the roster still, it seems interesting they would go after West unless Lee was a serious amnesty option for the W's (which he very well could be). The W's also have the least amount of cap space compared to these the other teams interested, which could be another hindering point.

West, 31, played 70 games for the Hornets last season, averaging 18.9 points per game as well as 7.6 rebounds per game. He missed the end of the 2010-11 season and playoffs after tearing his ACL, though how his knee healed up will be a big factor in his production, as well as interest from other clubs.

2011 NBA Free Agents: Could Brandon Roy Become a Golden State Warrior?

The Portland Trailblazers have apparently decided that they will waive Brandon Roy using the NBA amnesty clause, leaving lots of speculation as to where the talented but oft injured guard will be playing during the 2011-2012 season. Marcus Thompson of the Contra Costa Times noted that the Golden State Warriors could be a good fit for both him and the team.

Roy, a Seattle native, would prefer to stay on the West Coast according to Thompson, and that he would like to play for Golden State. Aside from the geography of the decision, Roy's former agent is Bob Myers, currently an assistant General Manager for the Warriors, another possible selling point for Roy.

Looking at the W's squad a big man would be the glaring weakness that stands out first, but the need of a veteran guard with gas left in his tank would also be a big help to Mark Jackson's squad moving forward. Roy's leadership would mean a lot to the W's young locker room, as well as not having the pressure of playing to his former All-Star level with Steph Curry and Monta Ellis still on their way up.

NBA Free Agents 2011: Golden State Warriors Interested in Nene?

NBA free agency this year is going to be quite the spectacle as teams around the league scramble to pick up talent on a shortened schedule, not to mention the list of talented players available as well. One player that sits around the top of most teams free agent wish list's is Denver Nuggets center Nene, and one team he could possibly land is the Golden State Warriors

Nene, 29, made $11.3 million during the final year of his contract, and was looking for an extension last season, but nicely kept quiet as the team dealt with the Carmelo Anthony fiasco. The team shipped Anthony to the Knicks in February, when Nene expected the Nuggets to turn their attention to locking him up. Denver decided to wait until right before the beginning of the lockout on July 1 to propose a four-year, $50 million deal, leaving Nene feeling disrespected for them waiting so long. He has now decided to test free agency, with the Warriors as a possible landing spot for him.

"I learned last season that this was a business," Nene told Yahoo! Sports. "No matter how nice you are to people, no matter how nice people are to you, this is a business. I did my best for the team and they waited and waited to extend me. I was like, ‘Oh, OK, all these years playing good, doing your best and they still test you.' That's not about family, love and somebody liking you. It's a business.

Along with the Warriors, the New Jersey NetsHouston RocketsLos Angeles ClippersIndiana PacersMiami HeatDallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers are the teams likely to have interest, and Nene will likely want to go to a contender. With all of the re-tooling that took place in the W's front office this offseason and possibly the addition of some more talent (and possibly dropping some with the new amnesty clause) could tip the scales is Golden State's favor for landing the Brazilian big man.

NBA Free Agents 2011: Golden State Warriors Consider Own Options Ahead Of Amnesty Clause Issues

Now that the 2011-2012 NBA season is able to get going, there is now the small matter of free agency that still needs to be resolved. Much like the NFL free agency period following their lockout, the NBA will have a truncated offseason that is expected to get started approximately December 9. With plans to start the season by Christmas, we are looking at most free agency signings happening within a matter of a week or two at most.

The Golden State Warriors have one restricted free agent and three unrestricted free agents:

Restricted: SF Reggie Williams
Unrestricted: PG Acie Law, SF Al Thornton, SF Vladimir Radmanovic

Of the four free agents, Reggie Williams had the biggest impact, which makes his restricted free agency all the better. Williams is entering his third year and looking to rebound from struggles in 2010-11. Although Williams made appearances in 80 games, he started one less game than his rookie year, and saw his averages go down across the board.

The big question Warriors fans are more curious about is the issue of the new Amnesty Clause. The clause is defined as follows:

14. Amnesty

  • Each team permitted to waive 1 player prior to any season of the CBA(only for contracts in place at the inception of the CBA) and have 100% ofthe player's salary removed from team salary for Cap and Tax purposes.
  • Salary of amnestied players included for purposes of calculating players'agreed-upon share of BRI.
  • A modified waiver process will be utilized for players waived pursuant tothe Amnesty rule, under which teams with Room under the Cap cansubmit competing offers to assume some but not all of the player's remaining contract. If a player's contract is claimed in this manner, theremaining portion of the player's salary will continue to be paid by theteam that waived him.

The clause can only be applied once, but it does not have to happen this year. The big names on the Warriors roster include Andris Biedrins and David Lee. It sounds like Lee is a favorite of ownership and thus unlikely to be "Amnestied." Most Warriors fans want Biedrins gone yesterday, but even that is no guarantee. Of course, if the Warriors want to make a run out a big man, they probably need to bite the bullet on one of these contracts.
