The free-agent right-hander is ready to work again after undergoing Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the Giants' World Series run.
Free-agent reliever Brian Wilson has been given a clean bill of health and will be ready to participate in spring training play, according to Yahoo! Spots MLB writer Tim Brown.
The news came after Wilson visited well-known Birmingham, Ala. surgeon Dr. James Andrews and following the 30-year-old's recovery from Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. He was non-tendered by the San Francisco Giants at the Nov. 30 deadline and became a free agent after the 2012 season.
Wilson played in just two games in 2012, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. In 2011, he pitched in 55 innings and totaled a 3.11 ERA, 54 strikeouts and a 1.47 WHIP. He made his third All-Star game appearance that season. Over the course of his career, he has become one of the most popular and intriguing players in the majors with his eccentric personality and famous facial hair.
