Marco Scutaro is returning to the Giants after agreeing to a three-year contract extension.

The San Francisco Giants and free agent second baseman Marco Scutaro agreed to a three-year contract extension worth a reported $20 million.

Scutaro was one of the postseason heroes for the Giants after being acquired in July in a trade with the Colorado Rockies. The 37-year-old Scutaro batted .362 with 44 RBI in 61 regular season games for San Francisco. He batted .328 during the postseason, including .500 in the National League Championship Series in which he was named series MVP.

According to reports, the Giants offered Scutaro a two-year contract with a vesting option for the third year, but Scutaro was holding out for a guaranteed third year. San Francisco and Scutaro's representatives met Tuesday during the winter meetings and were able to come to an agreement. Giants vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans said an agreement was in place, pending a physical.

Although he is 37, Scutaro has been consistently productive in recent seasons. He's produced at least 2.0 wins above replacement in each of the last five seasons.
