The San Francisco Giants have managed to ensure that centerfielder Angel Pagan will return, which is a surprise since they have yet to come to terms with second baseman Marco Scutaro. Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area files this report.
The Giants seemed like they would come to a deal with Scutaro, since his deal figured to be much more reasonable to negotiate compared to Pagan's. Scutaro is 37 years old, so the question might be with Giants management whether Scutaro can continue this production through the entirety of a future deal with the organization.
After being traded to the Giants, Scutaro almost immediately flourished, hitting .362 in his 61 games. He won the NLCS MVP after hitting in half his plate appearances, going 14 for 28 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Giants have signed Pagan for four years and $40 million, which will lock him up in a San Francisco uniform until 2016.
