Ryan Vogelsong makes playoff rotation a tough decision

After a strong outing in the Giants' regular season finale, the right-hander has to be considered for a spot at the back end of the team's NLDS rotation.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy has an important decision to make with regard to his team's NL Division Series rotation, and following a strong final outing on Wednesday, Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong is making that decision much tougher than Bochy might like.

Vogelsong (14-9, 3.37) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning in the Giants' regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, and Bochy was impressed.

Via Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area:

"He threw great," Bochy said. "Good stuff, good command. Like with Matt Cain, we got him where we wanted him. He pitched very well. He's all set to go. Now it's a matter of setting up this rotation and deciding how we want to do things."

Aces Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner are locks at the top of the rotation, and Baggarly suggests that the Giants might use Vogelsong as a bail out, should Tim Lincecum or Barry Zito struggle in the third and/or fourth game of the series.

Game 1 of the NLDS between the Giants and the Cincinnati Reds is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT Saturday and will be televised on TBS.
