Giants vs. Tigers, World Series: Pablo Sandoval has his name in history

Pablo Sandoval joins sluggers Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols as the only players to homer three times in a World Series game after his three bombs in Game 1.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval joined some elite company after crushing three home runs in the team's convincing 8-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday night.

The switch-hitting slugger became just the fourth player in history to hit three homers in a World Series game, joining sluggers Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols, writes Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.

The feat is even more impressive considering the Giants hit only 31 home runs in 81 games at AT&T Park this season, a stadium notorious for suppressing offensive production. Only one player has hit three home runs in a game at AT&T Park in the park's 13 year history, and it wasn't Barry Bonds. The Dodgers' Kevin Elster had the accomplishment in the first regular season game in the park in 2000.

Sandoval has been on fire this postseason, hitting .370 with six home runs, 13 RBI and a 1.164 OPS in 13 games.

First pitch for Game 2 is slated for 5:07 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on FOX.
