Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE
Buster Posey will be catching Barry Zito for the first time in over a month with the San Francisco Giants facing elimination in Friday's Game 5.
For the first time since Sept. 9, Buster Posey will be catching Barry Zito with the San Francisco Giants facing elimination in Friday's NLCS Game 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Backup Hector Sanchez has caught Zito's last five starts but obviously the Giants felt they couldn't risk the drop off of offense that comes with replacing Posey with Sanchez. And truly, that's probably the right move with the Giants only averaging 3.75 runs per game this series even with a seven run Game 2 outburst.
Posey will drop down to the clean up position after batting third in the previous game. The rest of the Giants lineup against 25-year-old Cardinals starter Lance Lynn is as follows:
- Angel Pagan - CF
- Marco Scutaro - 2B
- Pablo Sandoval - 3B
- Buster Posey - C
- Hunter Pence - RF
- Brandon Belt - 1B
- Gregor Blanco - LF
- Brandon Crawford - SS
- Barry Zito - SP
