2011 Pac-10 Basketball Tournament Player Update: Venoy Overton Suspended On Alcohol Charge, Justin Holiday Suffered Concussion

Stay connected for news and updates

Not much has gone right for the Washington Huskies this past month, and it's only getting worse. Senior guard Venoy Overton, perhaps Washington's best on-ball defender, has been implicated in supplying alcohol to a minor (a sixteen year old girl), the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. According to Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times, he has been banned from the Pac-10 tournament by head coach Lorenzo Romar. (And it could've been much worse for Overton; he was implicated by the girl for rape, but it appears that this was inconclusive.)

This couldn't come at a worse time for Washington, who are now left with Isaiah Thomas at the point as their only true guard left. Also, Justin Holiday suffered a concussion against USC and HE might not be allowed to play, leaving Washington with only SEVEN scholarship players. AND they're facing the only team in the conference that swept them in the regular season.

Washington is also fighting to keep their NCAA tournament bid alive, and going one-and-done at the Pac-10 tournament would gravely damage their chances. A poor showing Thursday night could put them right back on the bubble.
