The California Golden Bears and the Colorado Buffaloes squared off in Boulder, and Cal looked totally worn out. Without Markhuri Sanders-Frison (dislocated shoulder) and Jorge Gutierrez injuring his calf halfway through the second half, the team Mike Montgomery managed to cobble together for the past four months finally ran out of steam. Cal trailed by double digits for most of the second half and had all sorts of trouble rotating defensively, getting overwhelmed by Colorado's superior experience, strength and execution.
The Buffaloes grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, shot 45% from three point land and Cal turned the ball over 13 times, giving Colorado all the edge they needed. Alec Burks put up 25 points on 6 of 12 shooting and grabbed five offensive boards, Cory Higgins shot 8 of 15 for 22 points, and Levi Knutson added 10 points off the bench. Gutierrez scored 16 points, Harper Kamp added 14 and Brandon Smith chipped in 11.
