The California Golden Bears might be figured to finish high up in the Pac-12 standings this season by the media, but Vegas still appears to be pretty skeptical about their chances to do any significant damage in the NCAA tournament. Cal has 100/1 odds to win it all and capture the NCAA Championship, which are surprisingly long odds. It puts Cal fifth in the overall pecking order behind teams like UCLA (understandable), Arizona (less understandable), Washington (curious) and Oregon (what?). Cal returns a lot of starting talent and should be able to compete with any of these teams, but it appears as if no one seems ready enough to believe that Cal can compete for anything better than conference superiority.
Cal is only a rung higher than their archrivals the Stanford Cardinal, and they too have a chance to have a promising 2011 campaign as their young and talented recruiting class begins to learn to play together as a unit. Stanford is at 125/1 though, so hopes of a national championship might have to wait for another year.
