Cal Vs. Washington State Final Score: Isi Sofele And Rushers Lead Golden Bears To 30-7 Win

The California Golden Bears hosted the Washington State Cougars on Saturday night, and walked away with a decisive 30-7 victory.

The Cal win came largely on the strength of the rushing game. Three rushing touchdowns provided more than enough offense for the evening. Isi Sofele had a big night for Cal, picking up 138 yards on 23 yards with a touchdown. He also had a fumble that later led to the only Cougars score of the game. It was the only turnover for either team, but in the end it was his positive numbers for the night that will be remembered. Such are the benefits of a lopsided game like this.

Overall, Cal rushers would combine for 288 yards compared to 69 by Washington State. Cal defense kept the pressure on all evening, leading to an underwhelming game for quarterback Marshall Lobbestael and the rest of the Cougars.

Cal should definitely feel good about tonight's win. They nearly shut out a Pac-12 rival and now hold a winning record, sitting at 5-4 on the season.

Cal Vs. Washington State Score Update: Golden Bears Lead 30-7 In Fourth Quarter

After a huge first half, the California Golden Bears have slowed down just a bit in their game against the Washinton State Cougars. They are currently holding a 30-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

The only scoring in the third quarter for the Golden Bears came on a 43-yard touchdown run by Will Kapp. Cal also allowed the Cougars to get on the board for the first time early in the fourth quarter. After forcing a turnover on downs at the end of the third quarter, Isi Sofele immediately fumbled on the first play by the Golden Bears, which allowed Washington State to start the fourth quarter well inside the Cal red zone.

Cal is still doing a remarkable job in this game, jumping out to a huge early lead and largely shutting down the WSU offense. Things look good for the Golden Bears in this one, but there is still a lot of football left to play.

Cal Vs. Washington State Score Update: Golden Bears Keep Pressure On, Lead 23-0 At Half

Through the first half, the California Golden Bears are certainly looking focused and determined. They enter halftime without having allowed the Washington State Cougars to record a single score and hold a comfortable 23-0 lead.

Both of Cal's scores in the second quarter came in the final six minutes. C.J. Anderson had a five-yard touchdown run for Cal to end a drive of 9 plays for 71 yards. With under a minute left in the half, Giorgio Tavecchio (who earlier had an extra point attempt blocked by WSU) drilled a 43-yard field goal.

Cal defense has held Washington State to a paltry 55 total yards, and a stunning -15 rushing yards.

Quarterback Zach Maynard is helping lead the Cal offensive charge, with Isi Sofele close behind. Maynard has thrown for 106 yards with a touchdown. Sofele has reacked up 91 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown of his own.

The Golden Bears are firing on all cylinders, and hope to carry this momentum into the second quarter. They have not shown any signs of letting up so far.

Cal Vs. Washington State Score Update: Golden Bears Jump Out To Early 13-0 Lead

In the first fifteen minutes of play, the California Golden Bears are taking advantage of the defense for the Washington State Cougars. The Golden Bears lead by a score of 13-0 entering the second quarter.

Cal got on the board first with an early 19-yard touchdown pass from Zach Maynard to Anthony Miller that capped off a six-play, 66-yard drive by Cal. In the closing minutes of the quarter, Cal went on another long drive, this one taking 4:05 with 8 plays for 54 yards and ended with Isi Sofele taking a one-yard pitch into the Cougars end zone. Giorgio Tavecchio's kick was blocked, but the end result was Cal keeping WSU off the board entirely and holding onto a 13-point lead.

The Cal defense is doing a great job of keeping pressure on Cougars quarterback Marshall Lobbestael, keeping him to only 26 yards with five complete passes on 11 attempts.

Cal vs. Washington State Injury Report: Bears Healthy Heading Into Pivotal Pac-12 Game

On paper, this is not a very appealing Pac-12 game. Neither team has much of a chance at making a run in the Pac-12 North and a mediocre bowl game (at best) could be achieved with a strong finish to the season.

All of this being said, whichever team loses on Saturday can pretty much give up on any postseason aspirations in 2011. A defeat would be devastating for Cal and WSU has been battered and beaten all season long. Each side needs a win badly.

Here is the final injury report. The Bears are relatively healthy heading into Saturday's game, while the Cougars have multiple impact players on the mend, including quarterback Jeff Tuel.

California:
LB Mychal Kendricks, thumb, probable
FB Eric Stevens, knee, out

Washington State:
QB Jeff Tuel, shoulder, calf, out
DT Toni Pole, neck, probable
LB Mike Ledgerwood, neck, probable
OT Wade Jacobson, back, out
WR Kristoff Williams, stinger, probable

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Berkeley.

Cal Vs. Washington State Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The Cal Golden Bears and Washington State Cougars are two teams stuck in the middle of a tough Pac-12 North division and are looking to establish themselves with just a few weeks remaining in the season. Each side is hungry for a win and the Bears will rely heavily on their home crowd this weekend.

The Bears enter the game with a bit of controversy surrounding the quarterback position. After struggling throughout most of the season, Zach Maynard is the likely starter for Saturday, though Cal will have Allan Brigford ready to go if the poor play continues.

Here is all of the game day coverage you'll need for the matchup:

Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. locally in Berkeley.

TV Coverage: CSN California; ROOT Sports Northwest

Radio: The game will be aired locally on 810 KGO-AM.

Weather Forecast: Clear skies are expected in the morning, but rain will roll in mid-afternoon. There is a 60% chance of showers throughout the rest of the day. Temperatures will be in the mid-50's.

Cal vs. Washington State Odds: Golden Bears Open As Nine Point Favorites

The California Golden Bears have had a bit of a roller coaster season thus far in the Pac-12, seemingly coming out as a different team with every passing week. And coming off of their 31-14 loss by the hands of UCLA last weekend, they'll be wanting to get back in the swing of things against Paul Wulff's Washington State Cougars.

Cal has opened up as the favorite for this game over at Oddsshark.com, favored to win by nine points. Bodog has them listed as a 10 point favorite, the highest margin amongst the online gambling sites as of now, although sites like 5 dimes, bet online and top bet all have the Golden Bears as a 9.5 point favorite.

The Golden Bears have been playing rather well at AT&T Park this season, losing only one game on the shores of McCovey Cove. Hopefully they'll be able to keep it up this Saturday, and maybe even add a little extra coin to your pocket in the process.
