Cal, Stanford To Pac-12 North, But Will Still Play UCLA And USC Every Year

Larry Scott made the following announcements about an hour ago. Both the California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal are heading north, but they will maintain their original Pac-8 rivalries and still be playing all seven schools from the old pre-Pac-10 days. They'll be joining the Oregon Ducks, Oregon St. Beavers, Washington Huskies and Washington St. Cougars in the Pac-12 North. However, they are guaranteed to play the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins every season and maintain the century old California rivalries. This is similar to what the SEC does with old traditional rivalries (like Tennessee-Alabama or Georgia-Auburn). Some additional details: The Pac-12 conference title game will be played at the home stadium of the team with the best record that season, and will feature the winner of the Northern division versus the winner of the Southern division. Additional info compiled by Berkelium97 at the California Golden Blogs.

  • Revenue will be equally shared except in years when total revenue is below $170 million, in which case UCLA and USC will each receive an extra $2 million.
  • The Arizona St. Sun Devils, Arizona Wildcats, Utah Utes, and Colorado Buffaloes will rotate through the Bay Area teams' schedules.
  • Non-football sports will not be placed in divisions.
  • Basketball will play home-and-homes with traditional rivals and home-and-homes with six rotating teams. They will play the remaining four teams only once in the season, for a total of 18 games.
  • No decision has been reached about whether Cal @ Colorado 2011 will be a conference game or not.
