Cal lost its third straight game on Saturday to Arizona State and are off to its worst start since 2001.

This is unfamiliar territory for the California Golden Bears under head coach Jeff Tedford. After losing to Arizona State, 27-17, on Saturday, the Bears are in the midst of their worst start ever under Tedford.

Tedford took over for former head coach Tom Holmoe in 2002 after Holmoe and Cal lost their first 10 games of 2001.

Tedford got off to a strong start during his tenure but it has steadily gotten worse over the years. Since 2009, Tedford has a losing record and with the team's only win this season against Southern Utah, the fans at Cal are already noticing that this is going to be a long season.

Cal was penalized a whopping 12 times for a total of 119 yards which can almost always be attributed to discipline and coaching.

The Golden Bears gave up six sacks and quarterback Zach Maynard finished a paltry 9 for 28 for 126 yards and a touchdown.
