Starting linebacker Chris McCain left Saturday's game against Stanford with an ankle injury and did not return.
On top of the humiliation the Cal Golden Bears received from their rivalry game with Stanford Saturday, the team also was handed an injury or two.
Starting linebacker Chris McCain left with an ankle injury in the third quarter and was not able to return. According to John Crumpacker of the San Francisco Chronicle, McCain was on crutches by the end of the game and head coach Jeff Tedford did not reveal the severity of the injury.
This news is especially troublesome with fellow starting linebackers Brennan Scarlett and Jalen Jefferson already missing action with injuries of their own from Washington State (Scarlett re-broke his hand and Jefferson suffered a concussion).
Running back C.J. Anderson sustained an injury in the Stanford game as well, missing a few snaps after taking a shot to his shoulder. Anderson was able eventually return but the fact that he was helped off the field could mean he might take it easy this week in practice.
The Golden Bears won't have too much time to rest though as they will be heading to Utah to take on the Utes next Saturday.
