What can you put on your chips, burgers, tacos or pretty much anything else? Good pico de gallo, of course.

One of the most underrated aspects of Super Bowl food is its versatility. With so much food available, having a versatile food that can go with several dishes is key. Enter pico de gallo.

Pico de gallo can be used as a dip for your chips or as a topping for your burger or tacos. It is perfect for any number of foods and a must at your Super Bowl party.

cilantro

salt

Want to make people talk about your commercial? Bring up prom.

Audi will encourage high school boys everywhere to kiss random girls at their prom in their Super Bowl commercial. If that sounds bad, it isn't. They really just show one kid, backed by the bravery inspired by driving an Audi, planting a kiss on an unsuspecting prom queen and then getting popped by her date, who is predictably blonde and wearing a white tuxedo.

If this actually happened, it would be incredibly cool. In a week or so, the kid's eye would be fine and a week of pain is totally worth the lifetime that story would be awesome for. He could tell that story the next day and it would be cool. A month later, it would still be cool. In college, yep, it's still cool. When his kids are on their way to prom, IT'S STILL COOL.

Of course, this is a commercial and not real so that kid isn't actually cool. But the commercial is. People around the country will be talking about how they wish they had done that at their prom, or whatever other shenanigans went on at prom. At the very least, people will be talking about this, and to some extent, Audi.

Seriously, why didn't some kid do that at my prom?

No Super Bowl party is complete without ranch dip.

Ranch dip is one of the most underrated parts of a Super Bowl party. It's small and just a part of the equation -- you need something to dip in it -- but it is absolutely vital.

Someone brings chips? Cool, we have ranch dip for that. That jackass thought you wanted to be healthy on Super Bowl Sunday and brought vegetables? Awesome, we can slather it in dip and ignore that everyone here probably hates you. Ranch dip does it all.

Here's the other reason you can't have a Super Bowl party without ranch dip -- its so easy to make. Get the ingredients, mix them and you're done.

Ingredients

1/4 cup plain yogurt

2 tablespoons of mayonnaise

2 tablespoons of sour cream

1 small scallion, minced

Salt and pepper

Directions

Mix it all together in a bowl, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve.

I know, it is very difficult, but you need something to counter those crazy people trying to force vegetables on you.

Which Gatorade jug will the winning team grab to pour on their coach? Bet on it!

There are lots of important Super Bowl bets. There is who will score the first touchdown, what the margin of victory will be, the total number of points and, of course, which team will win. But all of those pale in comparison to the holy grail of Super Bowl bets -- what color of Gatorade will be dumped on the winning coach.

The smart money is on yellow. Both the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens poured yellow Gatorade on their respective Harbaugh when they won their conference championship games, making it a smart bet. Surprisingly, it is not the odds-on favorite so there's some money to be put on yellow.

A year ago, Tom Coughlin had purple Gatorade dumped on him, a color that isn't currently on the board, but surely will be before Sunday. Every option has to be available on the most important of bets.

Neither the 49ers nor the Ravens have ever lost in the Super Bowl. That is going to change on Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers are a perfect 5-0 in Super Bowls. The Baltimore Ravens are perfect in their only trip to the Super Bowl. But by Sunday night, one of those teams will have lost their undefeated record.

San Francisco won their first Super Bowl in 1982. They jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead thanks to MVP Joe Montana and then held on late, edging the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 to capture Super Bowl XVI. Three years later, Montana won another Super Bowl MVP right down the road at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, CA as the 49ers crushed the Miami Dolphins 38-16. In 1980, the 49ers found themselves matched up against the Bengals again, and once again San Francisco won a close game, 20-16, with Jerry Rice taking MVP honors. The following year, Montana won his last Super Bowl MVP as the 49ers crushed the Broncos, 55-10.

The 49ers' last Super Bowl win came in 1995, and it was their first Super Bowl without Montana, but San Francisco did not miss a beat with Steve Young at the left. The southpaw claimed MVP honors as the 49ers put a 49-26 beat down on the San Diego Chargers for their fifth Super Bowl title in as many Super Bowl appearances.

The Ravens don't have nearly as long or illustrious Super Bowl record, in large part because they didn't exist until 1996. The last time the 49ers won a Super Bowl, the Ravens didn't even exist, but that didn't keep Baltimore from getting to the big game and capturing a Super Bowl title.

Anchored by one of the best defenses in NFL history, the Ravens made their way to Super Bowl XXXV and in Tampa Bay, they showed exactly how good that defense was. They didn't allow a single offensive touchdown to the New York Giants, limiting them to just a kick return touchdown en route to a 34-7 win to deliver Baltimore the Super Bowl.

In that Super Bowl, Ray Lewis was named MVP. Now, he will close out his career back in the Super Bowl, trying to keep the Ravens and his Super Bowl record perfect. But the 49ers are trying to do the same. They may be undefeated now, but by Sunday night, only one of these teams' perfect Super Bowl records will be intact.

The 49ers could win the Super Bowl and Colin Kaepernick could win MVP, but the quarterback is still locked into his rookie deal.

Colin Kaepernick can be a Super Bowl champion, but it won't make him especially well paid (comparatively, at least). Thanks to the NFL's CBA, Kaepernick cannot re-negotiate his contract, even if he wins a Super Bowl and the San Francisco 49ers want to. He is locked into his rookie deal no matter what, says Adam Schefter.

Sixty minutes from a world championship, Kaepernick is finishing up Year Two of a four-year, $5.12 million deal that is worth more than $3 million less in full than what Mark Sanchez will make from the New York Jets next season.

Yet Kaepernick has no out. He is locked into the deal until after the 2013 season.

Of course, Kaepernick will have a fat contract waiting for him once his rookie deal runs out, but that doesn't do him any good for 2013. Instead, Sanchez will get paid to run into his linemen and fumble.

There are two sides to this:

Kaepernick signed his deal and should have to play it out. He agreed to be paid that much and that's how much he should be paid, whether he's great or not.

A player should be rewarded for his excellent play. Kaepernick has the 49ers in the Super Bowl and should be paid like a Super Bowl caliber quarterback.

Those sides don't really matter, though. Kaepernick will stay cheap, and the 49ers will probably keep winning thanks to their exhilarating young QB. The 49ers and Kaepernick are just hoping that one of those many wins to come includes one in the Super Bowl. If so, Kaepernick will have even more money waiting for him when this rookie deal runs out.

The Raiders season is mercifully coming to an end, and it looks like they will go out in the same way they came in.

The Oakland Raiders are a bad, bad football team and the looked like it in the first half of their 2012 season finale against the San Diego Chargers. The game opened with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Michael Spurlock and Oakland barely cracked the 100 total yards mark as San Diego jumped out to a 17-7 halftime lead at Qualcomm Stadium.

With Carson Palmer out, Terrelle Pryor got the nod at quarterback for his first NFL start and the glass half-full perspective is that he hasn't been a disaster. He's been safe and secure with the ball, which hasn't resulted in many yards, but he did throw a touchdown to Darius Heyward-Bey. That capped an impressive 12-play, 90-yard drive that marked Oakland's only real offensive movement.

Pryor has helped himself out on the ground, running for more than four yards a rush. Unfortunately, the Chargers have locked down Darren McFadden so the onus is all on Pryor to move the ball.

After running the opening kick back for six, Nick Novak added a field goal to put the Chargers up 10-0. The Raiders' touchdown cut that lead to three, but Philip Rivers found Antonio Gates for a 11-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead back to 10 just before halftime.

The 49ers lost Demarcus Dobbs early in their game against the Dolphins to a right knee injury.

Demarcus Dobbs left Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins in the first quarter with a right knee injury and will not return. The San Francisco 49ers' tight end and defensive end didn't look too hurt coming off of the field, but the injury is apparently somewhat serious because he was ruled out for the rest of the game rather quickly.

Dobbs is the 49ers' third tight end and second backup defensive end behind Ricky Jean Francois, making him a rare two-way player, but he appeared to have made the switch to just tight end this week. He was listed as only an offensive player for the Dolphins game, marking the first time all season he wasn't designated as a two-way player.

It is unlikely that San Francisco will be hurt too badly by Dobbs' absence today, but if he is out an extended period of time their depth will be tested by the unavoidable late December injury pileup.

Aldon Smith has set the 49ers record for sacks in a season in just his second season.

The San Francisco 49ers have to rewrite their record books after Aldon Smith set a new franchise record for sacks in a season with 18.5 on Sunday afternoon. Smith threw Jonathan Martin aside like he was a rag doll and took down Ryan Tannehill in the first quarter to break the old franchise mark held by Fred Dean.

Smith gave Martin a rude welcome back to the Bay Area. Probably armed with some help from Jim Harbaugh -- who was Martin's head coach at Stanford and must have had a few tips for his star pass rusher -- Smith made Martin look like a fool. He steamrolled the rookie and made his way into 49ers history with a highlight worthy sack.

Amazingly, Smith is in just his second NFL season, but that is all it has taken him to establish himself as the 49ers' greatest pass rusher and one of the best in the league. Smith could even make a run at the NFL mark for sacks in a season, too, sitting just 4.5 sacks back of Michael Strahan's mark with most of this game and three more to play this season.

New coach in Berkeley has his eyes set on taking Cal to its first Rose Bowl in more than 50 years.

Cal has not played in a Rose Bowl since 1959. Sonny Dykes intends on changing that.

"There's nothing like being part of a championship team," the Golden Bears' new football coach said in his introductory news conference.

And winning championships at Cal, at least Pac-12 championships, means a trip to Pasadena for the Granddaddy of Them All. It might as well be another galaxy away with how long it has been since Cal played in the Rose Bowl, but the hope in Berkeley is that Dykes can be the man who gets them back there.

Dykes comes to Cal from Louisiana Tech, where he showed up as one of the brightest offensive minds in the country and left as a head coach with experience and a reputation for winning, albeit in a short amount of time. And he showed he could win championships at Louisiana Tech, too, winning the WAC in 2011, a feat that earned him conference Coach of the Year honors.

Now Dykes hopes to do in the Pac-12 what he did in the WAC -- win the conference. Do it and the Rose Bowl is waiting.
