Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics was named the American League rookie of the month.

Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics was named the AL Rookie of the Month for September after an outstanding stretch for the outfielder. Cespedes had an incredible 30-day run, as he hit 28 for 109 with a .257 batting average, compiling five doubles, two triples, seven homers, 19 RBIs and crossed home plate 18 times.

Cespedes is a serious contender for rookie of the year right along with Mike Trout of the Angels. In the AL, Cespedes ranks second in runs among rookies with 69, second in hits with 139, second in doubles with 25, and second in home runs with 23. He also has 82 RBIs (second in the AL), 41 walks (second), a .290 batting average (third), a .352 on-base percentage (second), and a .506 slugging percentage (third). He performed that well despite having to sit out 34 games last year. Cespedes has really helped Oakland get going, as the team has won 80 of 126 games during his time there.
