49ers vs. Bills score update: San Francisco leads Buffalo 24-3

The San Francisco 49ers continued to build on their halftime lead and take a 24-3 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The 49ers got another quick score early in the second half thanks to a one yard touchdown run by Frank Gore. Gore capped off a five play, 66 yard drive that took a little under three minutes.

Quarterback Alex Smith continues to take apart the Buffalo defense. He is 17/21 for 293 yards and two touchdowns heading into the fourth. His QB rating is a near-perfect 150.5 so far.

Gore, meanwhile has 89 yards and a score on just 12 carries, good for an average of 7.4 yards per attempt.

Two San Francisco receivers have already eclipsed 100 yards on the day--Michael Crabtree has six receptions for 113 yards and a score, while Vernon Davis has 106 yards including a 53 yard grab.

San Francisco cornerback Chris Culliver picked off quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick midway through the quarter. It was Buffalo's second turnover of the day.

49ers vs. Bills score update: San Francisco leads 17-3 at halftime

The San Francisco 49ers lead the Buffalo Bills 17-3 at halftime.

The Bills tied the game up early in the second quarter thanks to a 31-yard field goal by kicker Rian Lindell. Buffalo managed to shake off a sluggish first quarter start to get on the scoreboard, marching down the field on a 12-play, 75-yard drive.

But the 49ers responded less than a minute later, after Alex Smith connected on back-to-back passes to different wide receivers. Smith first hit Michael Crabtree on a 36-yard strike, and that set up a 43-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver/kick returner Kyle Williams.

San Francisco appeared to end the half on a sour note when backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick fumbled in the red zone. But Buffalo coughed the ball up just a few plays later, and San Francisco converted on a 28-yard touchdown to Crabtree.

San Francisco outgained Buffalo 320 to 123 in total yards. Alex Smith has been near perfect so far, completing 12 out of 15 attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He also has a 24-yard run.

49ers vs. Bills score update: San Francisco leads 3-0

The San Francisco 49ers lead the Buffalo Bills 3-0 after the first quarter of play at Candlestick Park.

The 49ers have kept Buffalo's offense from establishing any sort of momentum. The Bills had just three first downs and 36 total yards. Quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald finished the quarter 4-6 for 30 yards, while running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller combined for six yards on five carries.

San Francisco, meanwhile, put points on the board following a six-play, 79-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard field goal by kicker David Akers. San Francisco was able to move the ball down the field thanks to tight end Vernon Davis, who pulled in a 53 yard reception.

Quarterback Alex Smith is an efficient 5-6 for 101 passing yards. Running back Frank Gore has accumulated 31 yards on five carries.

Neither team has committed a turnover thus far in the low-scoring affair.

Brandon Jacobs listed as questionable heading into Sunday

San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs turned in a full week of practice, but is officially listed as questionable on the team's official injury report.

Jacobs suffered a right knee injury during the 49ers' preseason game in Houston on Aug. 18 when he took a helmet directly to his left knee. At the time, the injury looked to be serious, but he suffered no significant structural damage and is in line to see his first regular season NFL action of 2012 in Week 5 against the Bills at home.

The 49ers have struggled in short yardage situations and on third down, converting just 14-of-42 third down opportunities through four games.

Jacobs figures to give starter Frank Gore some relief in that role and keep the primary running back's legs fresh for the rigors of a full season. The 6'4, 264 lb. Jacobs was acquired as a free agent after spending the beginning of his career as a member of the New York Giants, where he won two Super Bowl rings.
